Just to say goodbye to all my fellow datsun members. I have come to the sad decision to sell my 1977 Datsun 1200 GX. I just wish I lived in Aus to sell it to a member of this site to keep it in the family and also who will take good care of her.

Reason, need to buy a house and can do with the extra cash in the pocket for this.

Maybe it is just me, but I would think a stock standard none modified GX head will be worth more than a modified one. Reason being it is stock standard and now you can either keep it that way or modify it the way YOU want it not wondering if the port job was hopefully done right, etc.

I have a totally stock one not even skimmed in it's life in my garage cabinet. Will need new valves and springs but everything else is 100%. not even helicoiled on the threads and the threads are still fine not needing it. This I clasify as a valuable GX
head.

Would $500 be a acceptable valued price for this kind of head that needs a recondition on valves, guides, seals, springs, etc?

Don't think that combination is suppose to overheat. Did you cut the old radiator support panels to give more airflow. I think you must get the radiator cleaned.

I experienced that a blocked radiator will overheat even on the freeway because the water doesn't circulate at a proper speed compared to the load and engine speed. sorry if it was said before but what is your current engine and radiator setup.

I had similar problems. I decided to remove the stock mechanical fan as it drove me crazy when it sounds like a jet engine in front when booting it a bit. I installed a 12" fan in front of the stock 3 core radiator. Car started to run a litter hotter but still middle mark or just below it. When booting it or driving on the freeway it would climb to about 2/3 on the gauge and not drop at all unless the car is switched off so that the fan can cool down the non circulating water. I didn't get the core cleaned out yet and thermostat is brand new genuine nissan one.
So I put back the stock mechanical fan.

I still suspect my core is a bit blocked because is summer even the stock mechanical fan struggles to keep temp down and the electric fan kicks in to help it a bit. with them both the temp comes down and is ok but if mechanical fan is removed, not a chance the electric fan will do the job.

See if you can get a 5W-40. I use this in all my cars and are quite happy.
The gearboxes I use Castrol BOT130M. It is a full synthetic gearbox oil with specs of 75W-90 and GL4. It definitely improves shifting. Was recommended by most guys on our local VW forum who do allot of circuit racing and drag racing.

I have heard from a friend who also struggled with his compressor when painting cars that he once added a bunch of LPG tanks to increase the volume of the compressor's tank. It helped but puts some stress on the compressor motor because it now needs to work much longer to get all the attached tanks full. Might need a little rest to give it a break from running the whole time.

My thoughts are with all that recently went through these natural disasters. What do you guys think. Global warming?
It is for me very worrying that these type of things are happening short after each other and also non stop.

My wife works at a business that does woodwork. She does the books and stuff. They get nice discount on tools and equipment and can claim tax return on the tools. Gonna see if I can buy it through them to get it even at a better price.
