Most of the stuff that your'e talking about fitting should come with fairly comprehensive fitting/ wiring instructions. As for the alternator, are you replacing an externally regulated unit with an internally regulated unit? This is a simple job for any competent auto- electrician or mechanic, and either of those guys should be able to point you in the right direction withiout any hassles. Just be polite and be sure to ask for advice nicely!

The 64 datsuns had an E#1 series motor with a whopping 60 HP. Most of these are long gone and rare as rocking horse these days. I bought my 320 (64 bluebird ute) with a J15 fitted which seems to be the most popular as the engine mounts etc line straight up. Not much more power though at 77 HP. My 73 1200 ute's A12 runs rings around the J15 for sure.

Have just bought another 1200 ute and would like to sell my 320. Its an aqua 64 320 cab chassis with a j15 and 4 speed fitted. Has not been engineer certified. Bench seat recently upholstered and otherwise interior tidy including a still operational original dash. Bodywise in great shape with no rust, recent paint new wooden tray and all original badges includin 60HP fender badges. Cheers all, Johnno.

I have just bought my first Datsun, a 64 1200 cab-chassis ute. It has had a J15 engine fitted but i have been told that this is illegal without serious brake and steering upgrades. I am getting conflicting advice from everyone that i have spoken to an qld trans is no help either. Could someone please tell me what is involved in making this truck legal for rego in qld. thanks.
