Sorry Guys,
I think i have made an error, I think I retained the original 1000 Stub axles. the 1200 (or 120y) rotors and hubs bolted on,

I'm not 100% sure I'm using the right terminology, the stub axle is the conical bit that the wheel bearing spins on isnt it? I did this swap a few years ago and my memory isn't too crash hot.

PS: I never had this disc swap approved by an engineer, and after searching around on the RTA website, I discovered that technically they wont approve a brake swap that requires welding\grinding brake caliper mounts. However I reckon you could get it through if you do it neatly.

James.

how hard to fit disk front end

Gday. I figured out one way to fit a disc brake front end to my old 1000 coupe, It required a fair bit of work.. I used a mix of parts, and a bit of research in the disc catalogue at www.dba.com.au.

I used:
1. Sigma calipers, and Caliper mounts. (The model which is badged a 'chrysler sigma', which has flutes in the guards.)
2. 120y rotor's mounted on 1200 stub axles. (i think.. or maybe it was 1200 rotors on 120y stub axles.. One will not fit.)
3. I got a mate to weld 2 of the holes in the caliper mounts up. I then trial fitted the calipers and rotors and re-drilled the two caliper mount holes.
4. To make the brake pads fit, I had to use an angle grinder to take a bit of the backing plate off. (Bodgey I know)

I initially had some problems with the calipers binding, and sticking on, with a bit of mucking around I got it all sorted. It took some quality time on my back at pick 'n payless to figure this all out.

My understanding of the Finish language is pretty poor, but a turbo datsun looks fun in any language.

I love the 4 headlight grill on you 1200 sedans.

Hi guys,

I just found a N/A CA18DE + Auto gearbox on Ebay (I'm not the seller).
I would bid on it if I had somewhere to store it.. Bids are starting at $100, This engine would go well in a 1200

There is a really good article about soundproofing cars at www.autospeed.com.

The address is :

http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_2085/article.html

You can read the start of the article for free, but you need to subscribe to get access to the whole thing.

Mikali, I haven't got any speakers in the front at all at the moment, just the crappy boot ones. I'll do as you suggested and get some decent front 6" speakers and mount them in some risers in the front kick panels.

I wont bother putting the speakers back into the boot once the new panels fit. I'm reluctant to fit a sub because i dont want to cut or drill any metal to fit the box in the boot.

Probably not Repco, unless you get a trade discount they are relatively expensive, buy they have a good range.

I actually thought Repco stood for: Rip Every Poor 'Chap' Off

Mikali, What are you doing about speakers in your wagon?

I'm in the process of remaking the side panels in the boot area out of 3mm MDF.. I've cut out a template but I'm not 100% happy with it because the original panels have a slight bend in them, the MDF seems too stiff to bend into the original shape.

Anyone got an idea on what material to use for these panels? (something with a bit more flex than MDF, but around 3mm thickness)

I'm thinking of mounting some 6x9's in the new boot panels, but I think they might be too heavy for 3mm MDF. An alternative is a set of 6inch speakers, (which is what i have there now)

Has anyone done a fairly decent stereo install in a 1200 wagon?

James.
