The vents also join up to inside the body, you can move the vents by venting the tray sides underneath the vehicle.

check the fuel pressure regulator, sometimes the diaphragm splits and suck fuel directly into the intake manifold.

Does your carb have an idle stop solenoid, if so make sure it is hooked up and has power to it (brown wire from memory) should come out of the loom by the temp sensor.
