Hey Guys

Hope you all well.

Bad news, is that my ute was involved in a accident, It flipped on its side. Had a drunken driver(a woman) knock into my back end whilst on a highway.I had my wife in the vehicle as well, and luckily we got out without even a scratch.
The Ute, once put back into its fours, started on the turn, and not even a whiff/smell/sight of smoke, despite it landing on its side, and dragged for about 60metres at least. I actually drove her home, However the side shaft in the diff seems bent.

This womans insurance is paying me out for damages etc, Her car is a write-of (toyota Yaris)
Since my Ute being so Dependable, reliable,Tough and safe Ive decided to give her a new lease of life cos of her saving me.

I will be putting in cowley Branches/Extractors firstly. I need to put in another Carbi.
Do i go SU twin carbs or a webber. I am not going to do any work on the engine or head btw.

See pics just after accident.Only pics I couldve taken, as my Battery life on my phone was Low

Hey h

As u stated earlier, u hardly use the GX.
And remember friction is the highest on starting mainly.
WHat I've done was to something like DURALUBE,PROLONG or PS 23, additives on my previous datsuns and nissans.

I do know that when u do use the GX, you really hammer it...LOL....So i would recommend u change oil every 5000 Kms,,,
I use CASTROL MAGNETEC on all my vehicles,,,, No probs

""""Gas are a no-no in a light datsun 1200""""

Ok,,, I hear u WhiteSedan....
But i didnt say ""Easy to purchase, makes them any good or bad"""

And as for weight ratios,,, UTE a14 gas riders are much closer to weight ratios to a GX Datsun....But totally differents from your big fords, comaros/boat likes.

I had purchased the a14 gas riders for my previous Datsun 1200 Delux,,,and it worked much better.......didnt mind the loss of smoothness, but really enjoyed the cornering

Like i said,,,, Just my 2 cents,,,,,My suggestions

Hi whitesedan

The thing is that, we kind of lucky, Here in South Africa.... Gas Riders are easily available for smaller cars(weight Ratio).
Remember, the UTE in SA in still produced, and is one of the most loved commercial vehicles used....
So, gas Riders for the UTE is easily available, U can even purchase these from Nissan Agents as well.

Hi h

In this case I would suggest, fault finding...

Start with the following on your...
-Jack the car, shake the wheels in a manner to check if it aint the bearings, sometimes u mite just need to tighten them up...BE CAREFUL , not to over Tighten....
-Prop Shaft could be checked as well, by just going under and see/feel for play from the universal joints, also check by ear....
-G/box Mountings--if shot, it can cause vibrations to your prop shaft in return. And yes,, U joints and prop shaft can cause major vibes, also a clunk noise when u shift gears or take off fast...
-did u check tie rods
-ball Joints
-Steering column

Do u have a 5 or 4 speed g/box?????

Does your tyres still touch on the archs at times...could be a warn tyre???

Generally, vibration caused by warn out/warped disks are mainly noticeable when brakin,,,,

Just my 2 cent worth

Hi boet.

How u been??

Anyway, i would recommend Gabriel or armstrong.... they been around a while and are reputable...also affordable.

If u wanna have better cornering, stiffness at speeds etc, go for Gas Riders, adjustomatics, ortherwise, if u just want it for normal driving around town etc, i would recommend oil/hydraulic shocks, as they give a much more smoother and softer ride....

Oh, and remember, for track, cornering etc, leave/spring type is also very important, shocks only dont count,,,,
