I kinda agree with Dimlight65 about the draw through setup, but if you do it and it works fine for ya awesome as long as you go fast right? Sure fuel injection and an intercooled turbo are ideal, but that's easier said than done with the A series. Like you said you did it before and ran 14's on a tired engine, you got to respect that! I would really like to do something similar with my 1200. Now that I have a decent paying job I can afford to play like I've always wanted to...finally! I'm sick of getting beat by some punk with NOS (not nitrous) in a fartpiper (My own workd for any newer import with the huge, farty sounding exhausts, all different colored lights, and triple decker spoilers). Anyway, I want to build an A-15 with forged slugs, an engine built with all the machinist goodies, get a custom cam ground, some 1.65 roller rockers, ARP studs/bolts all around, lightweight flywheel with a NISMO racing clutch, and THEN throw on my fuel injection setup and the turbo I've had sitting around for the last couple years. I know that's a lot, and it will cost a lot, but probably about the same as putting something else in, with half as much cutting/fitting/customizing/junkyard surfing. Plus I love my A-15, I did a fairly cheap rebuild on it back in 1996, and it just won't quit no matter how hard I drive it. It just gets quicker and quicker (16.96) with more and more cars on the kill list. I wouldn't mind putting something else in it (SR20/CA18/VG30) but the weight and balance of the A series can't be beat. I'm gonna throw some Dellorto's on there soon and see how those go in the meantime. I just love people coming up to me after they see my car go, and want to know what's in it, they never want to believe it's a pretty much stock engine.

I would have thought you guys would definitely had electronic ignitions in the B210's, pretty much anything 77 and newer all had electronic ignitions. In the US get one from a 79-82 210/310/anything with an A series engine. One goes to the positive of the coil, the other goes to the negative. I also had to remove the resistor thing near the coil and connect those two wires together. It works pretty good, however it's time for me to get an MSD 6AL installed to give a hotter spark and a rev limiter to keep from messing things up. Good luck!

I'm not in Washington anymore, but I used to live over on the West Side also, in Puyallup. My dad and I had several 1200's while we lived there, but now we only have 3 all together. I had one for a while that got me through college and ended up selling it just before I left WA last summer. It's off-white with slotted mags, a guy on McChord AFB bought it from me, so If you see it driving around it used to be mine!! I was able to get a really nice one in California before I left WA, it only had 69,000 miles on it...the interior is the best I've ever seen on a 1200, and the body needs a few spots fixed to be perfect, but it's not bad. There's a guy up in Lynnwood that I met up with once who has a hopped up 1200 sedan, he's part of the club too, but I haven't seen him on for a while. He just got his painted canary yellow w/black racing stripes. He's got a rebuilt A15 w/dual Weber DGV's, cam, 5 speed. I've seen quite a few 1200's running around WA when I lived there, but here in Texas I have only seen two at a Datsun car show last October. What all has been done to the engine in that green/white car? I'm getting ready to swap out my GX induction for a pair of 40mm DCOE's so we'll see how that goes. Anyways, welcome to the club!

Jesse, if you want to see how my engine is setup, I just wrote that information in a post under the topic "Who has a fast 1200?"

Yeah my best has been 16.96 with my A-15, bored .020 over, it has dual 38mm SU's, NISMO extractor header with 2.25" exhaust, 229 duration cam at .050" .414 lift, 5 speed, electronic ignition, and a 3.90 open differential. It probably could get a little deeper into the 16's if I wasn't burning up the tire(s) through all of first gear. Something that helped me is doing the runs as soon as I could after I arrived, that way all the differential and transmission fluids are still warmed up and flow easier, the nice highway drive TO the dragstrip helps out a lot, usually blows a lot of carbon build up out on the way there. Anyway, yeah 16's with the A-15...probably 15's with sidedraft webers and a better cam, and 14's with some higher compression and a better set-up engine. I've heard of race prepped A14's doing 13's but that's a lot of work needed.

The transmission tunnel for a manual transmission might be wide enough to fit it (maybe), but the area that I thought would cause more problems was along the front top part of the transmission where it slopes down...the 4 speed has a greater slope requiring less rearward space between the engine/firewall. The auto doesn't slope down as aggressive so that whole bellhousing area needs to be a little larger for the auto. If you can get it to work, the auto is sooo slow compared to the manual off the line. The 1st gear in the auto is almost the same ratio as 2nd gear in the 4 speed so it's like taking off in 2nd gear all the time. Once it gets going it's not too bad though, just that initial zero to about 30 mph is doggy bigtime. Good luck!

Well last night I met my goal. My 1200 has broken into the 16's! It was a good night, I thought about trying to go further into the 16's than I did because on that run I was burning out through almost all of 1st gear. A limited slip rearend would've helped a lot. But it ran 16.96 @ 80.5 mph, ran great last night, although I can feel these carbs can't power through the high rpms like the engine wants to, so a pair of Dellortos should help out there soon. Then maybe mid to low 16's??? We'll see!

I'm going to the dragstrip again tonight with the 1200. Tonight I will be running my best ever times with my car. The reason I can say this is because last time I went I had a best ever 17.0 second run and it was fully loaded and wouldn't rev past 5500 rpm (carb was flooding out). It's not flooding out anymore so now I can rev to redline no problem and I stripped the whole interior out (took about 30 minutes). So I can't wait to break into 16's. Last time I wasted a brand new Eclipse and left everybody in shock...it was great! Everybody came to check out the Datsun after that run :) I'll let you guys know how it goes. Happy Easter!

Well I wouldn't say mine is fast, but it's quick. My best time in the quarter mile was 17.0 and that was with the car not revving over 6,000 rpm. It was cutting out because the carbs were flooding so I lost a good amount of time because of that. I know she can run 16's. The fastest top speed I've ever gone was about 130-135 mph not bad for just a slightly worked A15. She'll be faster very soon I hope

Hey everyone, this is my first post in this new club...in the old one my screen name was errrnstak just so you know who I am! Anyways, I had a few questions about the dual sidedraft carb setups on the A series engines. Can you use 40mm carbs on a 45mm intake? Is anybody interested in selling a manifold and/or linkages for dual 40mm setup for a reasonable price? The reason I ask is because the Datsun has been very good to me for the last year and it's our one year anniversary right now and I just scored a pair of Dellorto DHLA 40mm's for her for a good price and I want to piece together a working setup .....if somebody has a manifold that they aren't using (rather than wasting money on a new one). Probly won't be able to afford it like right now but maybe within the next month. Also I'm in Texas just so you know.

Also, what kind of difference in power would these make over the dual SU/GX setup? I bet they sound a lot better! Gas mileage probably isn't as good though, I still get 35 mpg's with the 38mm SU's. Are the Dellorto's harder to tune than the SU's? Talk to ya'll later!
