Ok, this is the bit that confused me when I recently did my Stanza upgrade.

I got the complete strut assembly with the lower control arms but when I went to install them I noticed that one of the lower control arms had a slight twist to it.

I had a look at the one that came off my 1200 and they where Identical to the stanza (length as well) and they just bolted up to the ball joint. The steering arm assembly and castor rods were also identicle

Now My ute is a 1984 and the donor Stanza was a 1982 with the big Girlock brakes, so I don't know if the later utes are different to the earlier ones?

Does anyone know if this is the case?

Depending on the year of your car, you may not need the additional bits and pieces

Jempson,

I have just done the stanza upgrade to my '84 1200 ute. I had a twin reservoir to start with but I went to a booster from a 120y.

The block on my firewall was different to yours, as mentioned earlier the rear line came straight from the back.

I was lucky that I could manipulate the rear line to reach the new master cylinder but I did have to get a new line for the front to go from the cylinder to the block on the firewall. I just went to a brake place with my old line, told them the lenght I wanted and they made one up with the right ends on it and I bent it up to suit where I wanted it to go.

If you do go for a booster, don't forget (like I did) to get the adaptor that goes into the inlet manifold to connect the vacuum hose from the booster. The strange thing is, the one from a 120y will not fit the 1200 inlet manifold (well it didn't on mine). I got one from a skyline, the stanza one will also fit but it has a few connections on it you will have to blank off, the skyline one doesn't.

If you are going for a booster, you will also have to make a bracket to mount it properly because there is a kink in the firewall that makes 2 of the mounting bolts too short!! You will also have to do some minor adjustments to the pushrod connector where it attaches to the pedal.

One other piece of advice, If you still have the standard 12" wheels, try to organise new wheels before the upgrade because the standard wheels will not turn with the Girlock brakes on the Stanza struts.

Sorry for a long post but I hope it helps.

I was trying to keep it old skool if I can but at the moment it is off the road waiting for wheels after a stanza strut upgrade.

15" x 4" front really would be hard to find tyres for. It sounds pretty tuff with 295's on the back. I like the hot rod look.

So what is the best size wheel to put on a 1200?

I am looking for wheels at the moment for my 1200 Ute and I was thinking of either 14's or 15's because of a larger range of tyres available in those sizes with the lower profiles. If it is still going to cause rubbing issues then I will stick to 13's.

What are peoples thoughts?

Another happy customer here, I had an absolute ball out there as well.

It was good to see the 1200's out there. Everyone did really well. You have one little beast there L18, it was good to see both of them in action.

I got a price of $79 from them but that is only if their supplier has it in stock.

I did a search on here and someone got one from Autobarn for $60 so I am going to try them.

I will let you know how i go.

Hello all,

I thought I would share this with everyone just in case someone else has been trying to locate one.

I went to Supercheap last night and while I was there I noticed that they have now got more stock of the Autotechnica wooden sports steering wheels.

The best thing is they are also on sale for $49 Needless to say I bought one for my ute but if anyone is after one get in quick.

I'm not sure how long the sale is on for but I was told they are selling pretty fast.

I got mine from the store at Nundah in Brisbane but I think other stores have them also.

You still have to buy the boss to go with it and they have to be ordered in.

Cheers

I'll be doing the Qld challenge as well but not in the ute, it will be left at home

I will look out for both of you and say hello.

Event looks like it is going to be lots of fun, especially the 8 special tests

I know the organisers are still looking for people to help out with the special tests so you may get a reserved seat!!

If anyone is interested send them an e-mail helpers@queenslandchallenge.com
