take the yellow peril over a big jump to make sure that the rust is indeed structural...

don't loose your feet if it snaps in half though might be a good idea to stand back and put a brick on the accelerator

My dad and my uncle had an old HR that had severe rust in the chassis years and years ago... they did some massive jumps in it and it didn't even look like bending!

don't pull it off... i definately won't look good. plus you wouldn't want to hit your head on it in a prang.

I have a dash mat on mine, and you can't see the cracks under that.

apparently its not hard to recover yourself either.

I have a join at the end of my headers with one of those U-bolt clamp things... went over a kerb, and the bolts hooked it, and pulled it off... drove it home like that at about 8pm at night... sounded awesome, and just couldn't help but wind the window down and rev it riiiight out

sure sounds awesome, but it definatley wouldn't take long to get sick of it!!!

I went for the CA because it fits in the 1200 engine bay a whole lot nicer (from what i've seen) without the need to recess the firewall or have the intercooler sticking through the grill.

CA's are a whole lot cheaper than SR's, and while there may not be as many of them, every man and his dog that owns a CA powered 180sx or silvia is upgrading to an SR these days which means that there are heaps of unwanted CA's laying around.

Its possible to get 300rwkw out of a CA, (fairly comfortably) which is waaaaay more than neccesary for a street car, so why go through putting a SR in when a CA will do?

The only thing i haven't really looked at is what it will cost to build a 200rwkw SR compared to a 200rwkw CA.

Please pick this comment to bits if I said anything wrong.

I love it too, and it would be fun to have something like this on the road if it were some how remotely possible... The only thing i'm not really too keen on is the massive bonnet scoop... somehow doesn't suit the style of the car... But at least this car actually needs a scoop!!!

The grill is a nice finishing touch too... any quater mile times yet?

Gotta love "move yourself" on the trailer... I think its a little out of context from what the hire place meant (assuming its hired)

every event I went to this year I was greeted with "oh cool a 1200 , my dad/mom/cousin/buddy had one

isn't it weird how who ever stops to comment on a datto ALWAYS seems to add that either he or one of his distant relatives used to or does own one... If it was any other car they would probably have forgotten about it by now...

Not only that, but has anyone ever met one that actually hated a datto? maybe a 120y or something thats actually on the some what ugly side of the scale...

I guess as they get rarer (and become collectors only material) all those people will probably want one more too...

mine doesn't look to great, i pretty much cut it out as big as possible. If i did it any smaller i would have ended up with half holes where those vents in the front behind the grill are. I took the whole lot out, and once i have my motor in, and have put my radiator and intercooler where i want them i'll remake it, directing the air directly at the radiator, and leaving room for a cold air intake etc. There's no point in having a big radiator if its not getting any flow through it!

definately makes it easier to move the motor in and out like this:

just for the record i used a grinder with a stainless steel cutting disc on it (one of those really thin ones)

have a search for DIY head porting on the net. Provided you have some idea what your doing its quite possible to achieve a bit of hp out of this for not much cost. mate of mine did it to his scooter a while back, and it went heaps better... (too bad he bent the frame on it doing jumps...)

being a 2 stroke it would probably take to a nice expansion chamber on the exhaust if it doesn't have one already.

Have a play with the jetting. see if you can drill out the jets or something. Make sure you do your research first though, and don't wreck it.
