You might ALMOST squeeze an L series in for around that much, if you can get the bits cheap enough, and have a little know how...

L series engines getting pretty cheap these days
Radiator
gearbox
tailshaft
crossmember (there's one that virtually bolts straight in)
gearbox crossmember...

better stop spreading evil ideas...

just be VERY careful you don't end up warping the whole panel. If you can get a grinder in behind, try welding up the gap first, then grind the actual filler part off later. (remove the fuel tank/lines etc first obviously ) That way the original part should hold the panel in the right shape. If you just cut a big square out from the outside of the panel, it makes it very easy to warp when you weld it up.

Have you seen this link?

http://datsun1200.com/modules/nsections/index.php?op=viewarticle&artid=39

I'm down to somewhere in the silver to dark grey area or blue... Still don't know for sure. Been a decision between those 2 for about 8 months now

You could go down to a car yard and have a look at the colours. When you spot something you like, write down the paint code straight away.

flat colours generally look the best as the datsuns are small (obviously) so getting stripes put on can be a bit over powering, unless you colourcode all bumpers and chrome trim. Personally i like the chrome, so i want a colour that will contrast well with it. Usually the fancy greens/oranges etc. that come out on the new cars aren't much chop either.

my 2c anyway

pipe rolling trick is only for getting rid of the return that strengthens the edge of the gaurd, and prevents it from being so sharp. this scrubs on the tyres... don't try flare the gaurds with a pipe. On mine it just pushed the gaurd out in the middle

Hey tommy, what rims/tyres are they?
