basically any 4 cylinder engine will fit comfortably. There are photos here of 6 cylinder engines in 120y's as well as a v8!

I'm not too sure what kind of engines you have in holland. Find something that is reasonably cheap, has a reputation for being strong/reliable/powerful, with plenty of avaliable performance parts.

An SR20DET would be nice, and it would quite easily make the horsepower your chasing, with plenty of potential for when the bug bites, and you need more power. CA18DET is cheaper to source (in Australia at least) but requires a bit more to get the same amount of power. These are among the most common swaps into datsuns in Australia, but maybe you have another motor there you could use?

Just make sure that any swap you intend to do is legal if you intend to drive it on the road, and make sure you have the money and the know how to finish the project.

thats the exact system that i have holding my tailgate up! only problem was that i had something heavy in the back, and it slammed into the tailgate, and the bolt popped out

Make sure that the sliding bolts fit nice and tight. when i don't have my torneau cover on to hold it up, the bolts often slide open, and the tailgate drops down. makes a fair bit of noise and you start to wonder if you ran over the neighbours cat or something

you did ask for opinions, so don't be too quick to say negative feedback and take offense when people are just being honest with you and expressing their personal opinions.

I don't mind it. I know if it was my car i'd make it removeable. Undo a couple bolts and the whole thing kinda slides out some how. That way you can still have the best of both worlds. At least with it in you could hide the battery in there somewhere too... maybe an extra one for when the stereo cranks up for a while.

Oh, and what about a built in esky some where in there too? Then it would be the ultimate party machine

Loving the progress too! Its always a buzz to see this thread on the main page. Certainly has come a long way! keep up the good work

the sort of rust you describe is pretty terminal... ...Sounds like a parts car to me.

My sedan has rust in most of the spots mentioned here, and its still a great car. A car that is rust free and has the name datsun is either a fake, or its never been out of the garage... These cars are over 30 years old now, you'd be extremely fortunate (more like a fluke) to find one rust free... You said the rest of the car looks pretty good. Rust repairs aren't the worst thing in the world. (Crash damage is a lot worse in my opinion) Check that it hasn't been bodged up though. If its like you describe, and no one has tried to fix it up, it may be a lot better than if its been bodged, and you have to fix some one elses dodgy repair work.

I think the bolt holes in the strut towers are slightly smaller in diameter in the 1200's. Its only a matter of a millimeter or two though. Other than that I'm pretty sure they're the same. The centre hole is smaller i think because the 120y struts are flat on top, while the 1200 ones poke through the top of the strut tower a little way.

check if 200b discs and calipers bolt on... I'm not 100% sure what i have, but i know i have 200b wheel bearings and 120y bottom ball joints, so I'm assuming i have 200b discs... not sure if its much of an upgrade, but the ute sure stops quick.

i'm pretty sure you need the tank out of a wagon, not 100% sure where the fuel tank is on a sedan, but i think it may be in the boot. wagon one is right at the back underneath.

have a bit of search, plenty on it:
