Ok, so I'm doing the r31 into 1200 strut conversion, and I'm a bit of a newbie to playing with front suspension. I have some adjustable strut tops to rectify the camber problem, and I am in the process of making the stanza springs fit. I'm not quite sure as to how to get the strut tops to fit with the stanza spring perches.

A couple of pics to show you what I mean:

Here's the strut top as viewed from below. red arrow (1) is the bottom of the nut, which sits about 5mm higher than the bottom of the spherical bearing (2)

this pic shows the top of the r31 shock, with the stanza spring perch sitting on top of it. (2) points to the lip on the top of the shock, which is narrowed to fit the spring perch onto (which the stanza one (3) fits onto perfectly)

The dilemma I have is that the nut and spherical bearing only get as far as (1) on the shock. If i retain the original r31 bearing (which works ok as a spacer width wise) It will hit the housing area (black section) on the bottom of the strut top, which renders the spherical bearing useless.

I'm guessing that the best way to rectify this will be to make up a spacer which will fit over the top of the spring perch, and fit into the bottom of the strut top (both the spherical bearing and the nut).

what do people think of this?? I'm sure there's plenty of people out there who have a lot more experience than me

Thanks in advance

try these guys:

K&N 4WD
Specialising In Long Range Fuel Tanks & Strongarm Wheel Carriers
9 Martin Pl Canning Vale WA 6155
ph: (08) 9456 4480 Four Wheel Drive Equipment & Accessories

They repaired a leaky fuel tank for me years ago, welded a whole new bottom to it (price was reasonable too, considering the risk). dunno if they do stainless, but they specialize in fuel tanks.

I had one made. It wasn't hard at all. I drew up a basic shape from the remnants of the old one and sent it to a sheetmetal place. (it was actually a place that bent up guttering and other roofing things as my dad is a builder)

Mine doesn't have a cut out for around the numberplate either, which i think is a plus
This would almost definately be cheaper/easier than trying to find an aftermarket or an original one.

try experimenting with spacers a little... I think you can space the grill out up to about 20mm without it being too noticeable....

I know some one that had their grill held on with cable ties because the intercooler was too big! you could hardly notice unless you had a real close look.

Dad bought that one it seems pretty good actually. Thats the second one that I've seen thats in reasonable condition for sale in perth this year, and we now have both of them I haven't been lookin too hard though, so they do turn up. Just be patient and wait for the right one to come along.

parts aren't all that hard to find are they? The bottom ends are interchangeable with L18/L20b's I think... that would give you plenty of choice as far as performance bottom end gear.
