Would I gain any performance from this type of setup or is it just alot of work for nothing? I know it wouldn't be as good as spending the money for the weber, but the cheaper the better in my book.

It's a very nice Datsun indeed, and even though I wouldn't personally spend 25 grand on a ute, I'm happy for him that he got what he wanted for it.

Will the cam from an A14 or A15 fit into an A12? If so, will it make any difference performance wise?

I have heard that you can make your own dual carb setup by cutting 2 factory intakes in half, filling the openings, and bolting the to the head backwards (cylinder 1 and 2 flange bolt to #3 and 4 ports, and vice versa). Has anyone tried this???

Well, I don't know much about the legal system over there, but that fine is very clearly crap. Like I said, I don't know much about your legal system, but here in the US that would never stand up if you took the ticket to court.

Sorry guys, one more thing. How hot can I make the A12? Could I squeeze 100hp out of it? The thing only has 43k original miles on it, and if I could get moderate power from it that would be the best way to go. Thanks

Ok, thanks for the insight. If I decide to go with the A15/5 spd, do you know of anyone who makes hot parts for them, ie new pistons or a better clutch? Who sells a rebuild kit? Thanks again.

Hey everyone, just a few questions. I am in the US and I picked up a 73 deluxe a few months ago. I am building the car as a sleeper/rat rod (steel rims and black primer, gutted interior) which I plan to drag race and autocross. My question is this: what should I do to it to get moderate street performance i.e. enough to keep up with the local Hondas , and still keep the good handling? What kind of performance can I get out of a warmed over A15/5 speed? I am trying to do this on the cheap, moneys tight, so I am interested in anything you can tell me. I can do some fabrication. Thanks guys.

Did you use the 1200 driveshaft or the one from the donor vehicle?

I don't know anything about the stock 302's, but I have seen many capable of 10,000 rpm built by hot rodders. One of the mechanics that works for me has a 302 in his Vega that turns 10k no problem, but you are correct, it's far from stock. In any case, a destroked crank allows for higher rpm.
