i am now the proud owner of a 1969 dat 1000 coupe. it is a racing car already and thats what i'm gonna do with it. its fairly basic at the moment but i'm looking at all sorts of possibilities for improved production racing next year.

she is a bit rough, but the body is sound rustwise. has an a14 which i will give a freshen up, twin su's and a rear cage with a race seat and harness. it also has some accident damage in the front end.

does anyone (dodgeman i know you have some ) have

a grille
a front bumper
the front apron or whatever the panel under the bumper is

i'm not a millionare, and i know they're rare so i'm hoping someone will help out a brother in need

cheers guys

the stuff you are after is called bundy tube, you can get it from any brake joint like ABS. its about five bucks a meter for the big stuff (1/2 inch) and they stock heaps of different sizes. i had to run a new big line in my 1600 to the fuel rail, not too hard. just don't bend it too sharply.

i can definately say without a doubt that what made this datnats so good for me was meeting and hanging out with so many good blokes! the cars were good, but thats not the stories that will be told fr years to come. its the experiences that will last. its i bit lovey dovey really. boofhead, thanks for the coathanger

got a few more pics dodgeman??? just a few of the 1200.commers cars will do

oh, yeah. as dodgeman says re: datman55... its definately not all about how fast your car is in a straight line. i had so much trouble around corners with my underdeveloped setup and road tyres, there were a few low budget 1600's with good camber and castor and a set of r spec tyres that pipped me round the track. handling is very very very important!

well, Datnats '05... what an experience!!! As many people have said previously it was really good to put names to so many faces. The "Datsun Love" was in abundance (accept from some of those cranky old z car snobs ) i managed to catch up with/meet so many of the dat1200 website fame. the show on saturday was awesome and the racing on sunday was just as cool. i'm glad i made the effort.

now for my personal saga...
after just getting the car ready enough to drive up to golburn, i had a fairly rough and very rich running car but knew (hoped) it would make it fine! seats folded down and loaded up to the brim we set off with the NDSOC melbourne cruise.

We finall made it around seven hours later, with the LAGWAGS having some computer issues, causing the timing to revert back to a power robbing 5deg! I knew that i would be able to pick a few brains the next day at the show and shine. and this was what i did, meeting and seeing the cars that had put so much effort into getting there i tried to work out my running issues, but to no avail. then i thought i'd give the old pre-scrutineering check a go. basically with about fifteen minutes of arguing with crusty pants head scrutineer (boy did i luck out there!) he had me with a quite large list of things to do which would even get him to consider me racing the next day. quite a task with very limited tools and only a supercheap auto that would be open for another few hours.

this is where the datsun love blossomed! loaded up with hopefull fixes from supercrap auto, me and my camping buddies went to work. then a few of the OZdat crew came to lend a hand, then a few of the queensland entrants came down and before you knew it there were thirty odd datlovers working on the wags! people were under it, in it, in the engine bay, or just there to lend there support it was classic! six hours later, she was ready for that crusty pants "head scrutineer" to view. we could do no more.

rolled up for scrutieering the next day, and luckily crusty pants was too busy to look at my car, i thought i was through! oh, mate... its a bit rough, i don't know... the guy says! obviously i need either a Z or a bajillion dollar paint job! ok pal, you tell me whats wrong. ummm the carpet could scrunch up under your pedals and affect them... i'll take it out. ummm i can see the vacuum line that goes to your boost guage... ok, i'll tape it up. so after doing this and going though the bay again i finally got someone who knew that we were all there for fun, as long as my car was safe. he did a basic safety check and i was on my way. this was truly a win for the people

positive camber, average brakes and street tyres made for a very slippery experience but the long sweeping corners and straights gave me the opportunity to stretch the wags's legs, albeit a little sideways

really it was great fun, i chatted with heaps of 1200.commers and made a bunch of new mates that i'm sure i'll see at the next nats. and i got to give my car a bit of hell around the track. possibly the ugliest looking car there, and with a big white LAGWAGON sticker made by four drunk guys at 1am the night before accross the back screen, i'm sure most will remember the legend of Lagwagon. so many awesome cars and guys, i'm proud to be a datto owner!

timing? if your timing is not set and running more retarded than it should, the boost will not really do anything. i know this is the case on EFI type setups, as one of the things they do to keep the motor safe in "limp home" mode is the computer pulls a stack of timing out. have you checked that?

yeah, you're right andrew. its only a number, but i don't love the way it drives...

i base it on the first time i drove Cam Mckinnon's SR20DET 1600. that thing was an animal. driving through the city, taking off from the lights without getting wheelspin was an effort! thats because of the way the tune was setup. nice and simple, plenty of timing in the computer down low and just the K constant being modified (i'm sure there's a bit more to it...) my fuel maps were played with but not the timing which is where a lot of the "good feeling" instant power can be made. with my car as it is, i don't really get wheelspin by just flooring it and revving it out.

long story, but i'm investigating into some better response.

i'm heading up to datnats on the friday morning so i probably won't catch any of the friday praccy day. i'd love to see your coupe and grab a ride... are you gonna hang around much of the evening?
