The insurance company has written off my ute as a "reparable write off"( PREVIOUS THREAD) which means that I can repare the damage and have the vehicle inspeced and re licenced- the problem is....

Too much work is needed before they would even consider re licencing the ute.
I've been looking for a replacenent shell over the last few weeks ant there aint any about (Perth) so the desision has been made to restore the ute.

Biggest issue is structural rust around the rear spring mounts and sub frame ...solution?
tear it all out and fabricate a whole new rear sub frame. While I'm at it I'll probably continue the rear sub frame forward to meet up with the front sub frame to allow for proper gearbox mountings ( slapped in a rough mount for a celica box and I don't think the coppers would approve that one...)

Food for thought....
Re use rear leaf springs ( springs need replacement) or fit a four link?
ute diff will be retained if I can find another ( bent axle form impact)

I have managed to find a rust free sedan to chop up for replacentment rust parts like the external windscreen support panneling , doors and a few other bits and pieces.
Photos to come.

Corolla cs radiatoris about 70mm wider on the mounting holes which means you need to make a couple of small brackets if you dont want to modify the radiator pannel. I think their a little bit taller too but not enough to cause any trouble.
Inlet and outlet are a spot on match too.
Mid summer in Perth gets up around 40C + and I've never had the temp gague go over 80C.

Yeh, they've classed it as a "reparable write off" which means that I keep the car, they pay me out BUT I have to hand the lic plates in and de register.
then i'd need to bring the ute up to scratch to pass inspection to be able to re register which means a fair bit of structural repair work which I really don't have the time for at the moment ( building a new house)

Thought about buying a Subie brumby to keep me on the road and gararging the 1200 for a project when I have the time....or buying another 1200 ute if I can find one for the right price to kep me going......must have registered wheels ....ungh!!

Howdy all,
the insurance company has written off my 1200 ute and I need a replacement FAST!

Prefer 1980 onwards, lic or un lic, complete or incomplete, body rust ok but prefer structurally sound vehicle.
I'm going to use my ute for donor parts so anything missing off the replacement won't be a problem.
Please phone me on 0411 561 755 if you can help.
Thanks,
jason.

I think it would be under a grand. you can buy after market 1/4 panel for the utes from most parts places.

Well thats what I would have thought too.... if you or I were to do the repair.
BUT for a "pannel shop" to do the repair try inexcess of 2 grand!

But thats not the onl porblem. Turns out that due to the nature of the impact ( 90 degrees to the rear wheel) the whole rear axle is rooted. I suspect the axle is bent and a shockload has been sent through the diff centre ( its bloody noisy!)
Again for a "pannel shop" to do the repair on the whole rear axle assembly try another 1500 big ones.
this brings a total repair cost to $3500 ....remember you or I could do this for probably $5-600 but thats not how an insurance company looks at things.

An ASS-essor is suppose to be coming out early next week to make a final desision on the poor little thing but the repair costs are now out weighing the insured value.

If anyone can help , please call me on 0411 561 755.
