The 'supposed' weight of vehicles has to be taken with a pinch of salt, depending on it's source. The factory may have weighed it with no silly weight adding things like liquids, jacks, spare tyres, floor coverings.
Just like the 69 HP (SAE) that the engine supposedly makes.

Don't know if I'll part with it. Don't know what they're worth. But hanging onto it until I find the right car to put it into looses me nothing so, we'll see.

It's good to learn something about these motors. Never gave the old thing much thought till recently, it's just tucked away with a heap of other motors.

Heres the motor, top two show the numbers, Dodgeman you were right about the A after the engine number, and the last one shows the block height. Definately the shorter block. This engine runs good too

I'm inclined to believe it's the later, with the 76mm bore. The gentleman I purchased it off rebuilt it several years ago and said he couldn't find any part info for it but the pistons measured up as A14 items. I'm of two minds at the moment whether to use this motor or an A15. I've just finished making a sump and oil pickup for my A15 which is reversed to put the large oil pan area at the rear of the engine(earlier thread about sump compatibility). Haven't bothered to weigh the car yet, but if it comes in over a tonne, I might go the A15, if its under A13.

Thanks Dodgeman, I'll pull the head off and measure it up and take some piccies soon.
I would appreciate that email, as it will probably be the engine going in the p312

The more I look through the forums there seem to be very few people running the A13 in their cars. Why is this?
Given that they are a larger bore, smaller stroke motor, I thought more people would use them.
Anyone running an A13?
What combinations of parts are you using?

the wheels locking caould also be lack of weight to make them turn in gear in a ute.
you've checked spark, do you have fuel?
either take the fuel hose off at the carby and point it into a dish, then crank the motor and make sure plenty comes out.
alternatively you could spray some aerostart down there and if it kicks straight away that would also indicate fuel. Since your running flat-tops, do you know your new comp-ratio? it may be higher now and require a stronger spark, if the engines turning slowly, try jump-starting off another car to get the voltage up.
