No Problem!! Ok it was a little scary but nobody got hurt and nothing broke I think.

Couple of questions: The rear end of the tranny is covered with oil. Is this a sign of some problem with the tranny? See pic below. Also once I took it out the block tilted WAY back. It's resting on the front crossmember. Is that normal, or does it mean my engine mounts are shot? They look fine to me, but maybe they shouldn't flex that much???

He didn't say how much to me. I just looked back at the PM and he said it may not be until this summer when he'll be able to look for bumpers. So now would be a good time to talk to him. Keep us updated.

Contact member AFRacer. He PM'd me awhile back about parts from Japan for the B310. I just don't have the funds for it, but maybe he can help you. Good luck. I can't find any pics of the Japanese skinny bumpers that came stock on the B310 Sunny. If you find some please post them here cuz I'd like to see.

I read something about damaging the output shaft in one of my repair maunals so I was worried about it. Sounds like it's not really an issue - that's good. The car is jacked up about 16" off the ground so I've got plenty of room to get under it. I'll give it a shot tonight if I get a chance to work on it.

I think I've got everythin disconnected. The drive shaft is off, reverse light connection and speedo are disconnected, the clutch slave cylinder is removed, the exhaust pipe is disconnected and mostly out of the way and I went ahead and took the starter motor off. I don't see anything else so I guess it's ready to go. Thanks again for the advice. BTW it's a 4-speed manual.

I had an overheating problem last year, but before I had a chance to fix it I blew the head gasket. Just wanted to warn you that it doesn't take much so fix the overheating problem ASAP. I still don't know why mine was overheating. HOpefully I'll figure it out or it'll go away after the rebuild. PS the car looks great in the pic.

OK now I'm really ready to drop the tranny but I'm not sure how without damaging the output shaft. Is there an easy way to do this without buying an expensive transmission jack? I've got a small wooden cart that I can fit under it but I'm not sure how to make a cradle for the tranmission. Anytips or tricks? Or should I just put some stands under it, unbolt and pull it off by hand? Thanks for the advice (as usual)>

Welcome to the club from another TX member. Check out www.tensandtwenties.com - it's a TX datsun club of sorts. Also please post some pics of you have some!

Hey Dimlight,
I took your suggestion and did some reading on general EFI setups. It's a pretty simple system in theory, just a control unit that tells the injectors when to open depending on inputs from various sensors. On the other hand, I think it'd probably be too expensive for me - or at least wouldn't have enough benefit for me to backtrack on my planned SU setup. The parts I came up with is injectors, manifold, fuel pressure regulator, high pressure fuel pump (in tank?) ECU, fuel return lines if necessary depending on the pump, air flow meter and temp gauge, and depending on the ECU possibly oxygen sensor, throttle position sensor, water temp and RMP meter (possibly use stock). But anyway, I'm sure the cost of all of that plus wiring and all of the required plumbing would be well over $1k for new parts anyway, possibly much more. I've already put a few hundred into my SU setup and will be done with it in a few hundred more, so I guess count me out. I thought it might be worth it for the reliability benifits over SU's but here in TX that shouldn't be much of a problem anyway. Just need a working choke setup and I'll be fine.

But on the plus side I learned a little bit about EFI.

One of these was recently featured on Monster Garage so yeah you could get pretty good action on an auction. They have more visibility right now than they have probably since they were first built! Especially if it's in good condition on the east coast - hard to find ones that aren't rusted out there. I also recommend you advertise on the datsun 210 Yahoo Group (you'll have to join the group first). Here's a link: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/datsun210/

Good luck. Pleaes post pics here if you have any. I'd love to see it.
