Well, the FJ20 is much older, though. I would think of it more as a twin-cam Z20E. If I recall correctly, the FJ20 is not a 16 valve, it just has dual overhead cams.I don't think it would be a good choice just because they never sold it here in the US. Getting parts for it would not be easy.

FJ20 is 16-valve engine, and it sure is absolutely strongest 4-cyl Nissan engine, rumours says that it's originally designed to be 1,5-litre Formula1-engine, but Nissan used it's 2,4-litre version in their group-B rallycars in 80'.

The KA24E would have ALOT more torque, and comparing stock engine to stock engine it would have more horsepower too. Plus it's easy to get both stock and hot-rod parts for the KA here in the US.

FJ20E has 150HP in stock form, and it's good up to 9Krpm or even more. You can also stroke that FJ to 2.4-litre but that Nissan's original group-B cranksaft will cost a fortune and those KA's partially counterweigted cranks limits usable rpm's to about 7000.

This site might give you some good info.

He's also have done one simple dos-based jetting program which is quite useful.

You probably have 32mm venturis on your carbs as they are default ones, but check them out. With those I have used 135 main, 7772.5 emulsions and 210 air jets, and 7850.1 idle airs with 55 idle jets. But that's just one configuration which works quite reasonable with my little modified L18, jetting carbs is always for one engine only and you should have full sets jets and emulsions to try out which configuration works better. And it's almost imbossible to find out the best configuration, you can always prefer better driveability or better fuel consumption and even moons position has effect to best jetting, but jetting is quite fun if you have right attitude.

Stock 2dr 120Y sedan weights 790KG, just 100kg more than 1200. But with L-series engine, transmission, crossmember, struts and 160J rearaxle it weights over 150KG more.

there are some diffrences between front suspnsion on a 1200 and 120y. im not sure how major but i know because i got a 120y swaybar for my car as its 2 or 3mm thicker but also when changing my struts to stanza struts i had to use 120y castor rods (thats just what i was told to do and i didnt ask questions) as they were diffrent to 1200 and fitted on the stanza strut. this i know is unclear but it makes me think there are some diffrences so maybe the same rules dont apply to both cars as far as modifying suspension and stuff.

There's differences but they not go by models, instead by year. 120Y and 1200 are identical technically up to '75, then 120Y gets bigger brakes, same as older 180B's and bigger ball joints etc. and different transmission & propeller shaft. That parts are same with later model RWD Sunnys.

120Y has those mounting points to 180B crossmember and transmission as they have been made with L-series engine, called Sunny Exellent. B110 has also made with that engine but I haven't seen how it be different to A-series 1200 as those mounting points to different crossmember lacks, that 180B/1600 crossmember sit much further front than that A-series to make room for longer L-series engine and rear mounted oilpan.

Datsun's aren't so different, I use L18 + 4spd with crossmember and struts from Datsun 160J model 710 in my 2dr 120Y, everything bolted right in execpt gearbox crossmember which I take from -81 B310 Sunny. And 1600 and model 710 160J are almost identical at those parts, only difference is that some 160J and 180B models have longer gearbox which don't fit straight to 120Y without modifications.

I think that 1600's CA18 kit fit in 120Y too, only that gearbox crossmember probably don't fit.

I also check if 180B IRS would fit in 120Y but that requires quite a lot to do, almost hole rear-end needs redoing.

Also with 160J or 180B front crossmember and structs 120Y is much more neutral even with L18 as tyres come about two inches more out and get some negative camber.

I also use in that 120Y 160J's rear axle and leaf spings which use needs custom made bolts as they are much bigger than 120Y's originals and A10 Violet(some places known as Stanza) propeller shaft which also bolts right in, even that centre bearings holes are just right.
