I was going to say that the cam has just been reground, but that sure looks like a lot of material removed for a regrind.

If you keep track of how far you've driven each time you fill the tank you should be able to guess when you're about to run out of gas.
It's obviously easier if you have a trip odometer.
I quickly do the math each time I fill up. I know that I'm getting about 32-34mpg. So with a 10.5gal tank (sedan) I would expect to run out of gas at around the 330 mark.
I usually fill up at around 270miles and put in 8-9 gallons. And by "fill up" I mean to the rim

I've had the brushes in the alternator wear out twice.
The charge light came on intermittently when this happened.

That 1" sandwitch adapter drops the filter just below the block so a ford size filter will fit. Example=Fram PH8A

don't forget to remove the wrench when you're done.
It will make a loud bang when you try and start the engine.
Don't ask how I know.

Mine would sometimes idle at almost zero. Who knows what would cause it, but you could clearly hear each cylinder fire. Pop, pop, 1 , 3, 4, 2.
I would let it idle like this for a while cause it was weird and sounded cool. Didn't notice that the oil pressure was at almost zero, too.
Letting it run like this may have been the cause of 3 cam lobes getting rubbed off. I'm not sure if it was a coincidence or not but I do know that I don't let it ever idle this low anymore.

Normally, my A12 idles at around 1500rpm.

As Burke mentioned (i think?) is this the relay on the radiator support, next to the LH headlight, for the choke + anti-diesel solenoid?
EDIT: I guess not. I just looked at the wire diagram. The Relay (auto choke) Heater has 4 wires going to it.

Happy Birthday Datsun1200.com!

Special thanks to the Branco Bros and to everyone else for making this site possible.
Thanks to this site, I have learned a ton and I have made a lot of new internet friends. I have even managed to meet several of you in real life here in California and even one person in Japan.
I'm also thankful to this site for adding the terms "Fanta Injection" and "Fully Sik" to my daily vocabulary.

Wait a minute... 6,7,8... As of next week I will have been a member for 8 years. Wow, has it really been that long?

I didn't notice much difference with the lighter oils. I have gradually worked my way up to 70W90 gear oil.

I just recently sucked out the oil/gas mixture that was in the carbs and filled them with fresh 70w90. The carbs seem more stable. Nice long, rich accelerator pump effect but the throtle response also seemed a tad slow. Not bad but noticable.
I need to try something a little thinner.
