On the US 5spd's, the speedo pinion gear will interchange from the 4spd, BUT there is one less tooth on the output shaft(5spd). This makes the speedo fast.
That's what I've seen on the 4 5spd's I've had.
Anyways, where does someone get an adaptor box? I have a 5"autometer speedo that will certainly be wrong.

I took my motor to this guy in Oakland. He use to race 1200's and knows quite a bit about the engines. This was about 7 years ago though and back then he had gotten rid of all his 1200 stuff. He still rebuilt my engine (i assembeled it) and it has run great for 7 years + 80,000 miles. I'll try to find info on him. I think the place is called Stirtz Machine. The guy that reground my cam has retired. Everything else was mail-order or junkyard. Actually, some parts are from guys in the NorCal UFO club. Its a 510 club but some of them have 1200's too.

A couple of people posted messages today asking why they could not log on. They asked if the site was down since Friday 3/8.
I have no idea how to help them. I though I would post this so that maybe some one could go back and help them.

Looking at this parts list for US and Canadian 1200's. The vapor return line goes back to the 'canister' thing. On the coupe it attaches to the top front fitting. On the sedan it attaches to the plastic thing tucked up under the back window behind the trunk lid torsion bars. The other lines from the 'canister' thing look like vent lines to the fuel tank. The coupe has 3, the sedan has 2. There is also a line from the 'canister' to the fuel filler neck. The sedan is easy to figure out, look in the trunk and/or pull the back seat and its all right there in your face.
The coupe....my god there is shit all over the place. I can see where all the vent lines go, but i cant quite find where the fuel comes from. Its not shown. Looks like the front side of the tank or front top of tank on the passanger side.
There you go. The parts list sure does help.LOL

PS. the fuel line goes straight to the tank. On the coupe, it seems to enter near the fuel level sender. the vents on the coupe tank are on top at the very corners.
Oh, my I wrote a lot i hope this helps.
Worst case, i can scan some of these pages.

my car is not fast relative to the others. I still have an A12. With the new addition of duel SU's and a GX head, it should be faster than before, which still wont be that fast. I just want to be able to cruse at 85-90mph, for 4-5 hours, (to LA or shasta) in the middle of summer, without overheating and with no problems. Oh, and get 30mpg, too.
This car must not only earn my trust ,which is easy, but it must also earn my wife's trust.
For some unknown reason, it only breaks down when she is in it.

I had a problem with my starter. It would just click and not turn the engine over. It would start just fine when i shorted the terminals with a screwdriver or coin. I changed starters and the ignition switch and had the same problem. I solved this by adding a relay to turn on the solenoid. The solenoid now gets plenty of current and i have not had a problem since. I guess the 30 year old wiring is getting tired.
As far as the headlights... I guess you've changed everything but the switch. Who knows, maybe its bad. Also, check the fuse with a volt, ohm meter or replace it. I've had a fuse go bad that looked fine but didnt work.
