You mentioned that you have a stock carb. If it has an anti-dieseling solenoid, make sure it works. It cuts off fuel to the idle
curcuit.
On 1973 1200's in the US, there is a fuse in the engine wire harness, next to the wiper motor. This fuse powers the solenoid and some
other things,too.
Anyways, i had this fuse burn out once, and did not realize this was my problem until...
most of my engine was disassembled!!! LOL
I took apart my engine because of a burnt fuse!
Good Luck
keep us posted

if the hole ends up to big to retap with an M6x1, you MAY be able to open up the hole to 6.75mm and tap it
with an M8x1.25.

Been there, done that. Actually your situation is worse than mine. In my case the other guy was found at fault and I just received a settlement for the car and my
injuries, about $7000 total.
And, I "bought" the salvage from the insurance, so i got to keep my car.
And, to my wife's dismay, I found another 1200 and I am now in the process of transfering my funds from one car to the next.
Goodluck with your project.

Is this overkill? I put a picture of my dash in Members Datsuns.
The foam cover was removed and the metal trimmed to fit around the roll cage. This thing will fit right over the front horizontal bar.
Anyways, this aluminum panel fits where the stock plastic insert was. If i wire this up right, i will still be able to pull this panel off without pulling
the hole dash.

I used the glass runners from an 84 Chevy Nova/Toyota Corolla. It fits ALMOST perfect but it was very cheap from the junk yard and its a hundred times better than 30 year
old glass runners.

Some idiot ran a red light as i was making a left turn. The last 2 pictures in 'members datsun's' tell the story quite well.
Unfortunatly, for my wife, i may have already found another one. I know these cars too well and have too many spare parts to start over with
anything but a 1200.
