I distinctly remember the oil pan gasket being different from the A12, I have like 3 NOS form the 70's or 80's packages of Datsun pan gaskets & they're slightly different. If I remember correctly they have a slightly different curve to them...... I'll buy an A15 gasket & post up some pic's. I remember this cuz I couldn't use them on the last build.

thanks. It must be slightly different from the A12 head then as I seem to remember the two gaskets not interchanging, oil pan gasket isn't the same either.

I'm having a difficult time locating the OE numbers for a 1980 A15 engine complete gasket set, individual head, pan, timing cover gaskets - anyone have these?

David??

Thanks,
Evan

Take ed's advice & either strip it yourself w/a DA, chemical peel, etc... or pay someone $600 - $800 to media blast it completely - DONT use soda!

Then SCRUB the car down with Dawn dish soap as prep for the paint shop, that way it'll of been d-greased really well from the start, they'll do it again anyways (at least they should) - matter of fact I wouldn't tell them you did that as they may opt to skip that step. You'd hope they wouldn't but you never know.

quality paint & body work cost money, no way around it.

The rain & sudden fierce storms in Malaysia was quite an eye opener. I visited on a trip in 93-4 & spent a week in Malaysia, you could be walking down the street with reasonably clear weather & within minutes have rain coming down at firehose proportions. It rains like hell here in Seattle but those types of storms are unusual here, they seemed common there.

Pretty wild to have streets flooded within minutes, I never knew rain could fall in that kind of volume until I visited Malaysia.

Bige, didn't you recently have a built A15 on here for sale in the $5K range w/no takers......what was that motor, perhaps that'll give the OP an idea.

I've no idea what my HP rating is but I've got about $1500 - $1800 US into my A15 - Weber DCOE w/Cannon intake, mild street cam, ceramic coated header, dual springs, .030 over block, H72 oval port head, new guides, I did not port match the head (should of...) thats just the motor too. I had the rad re-cored & an electric fan, new heater core, etc...

my .02 cents......

The Vega ranks up there with some other american classics like the Chevette, the Citation , Monza(all GM by the way...) the Pinto & I'm sure more but the Vega was a giant POS car that was totally unreliable. Very poorly manufactured, junky & rattled like crazy. i used to haved a customer who'd bought one new & came by the shop quite often for all kinds of misc failings on the car.

Oh yeah, they rusted out easily, probably more so then the 1200....

just my humble opinion

thanks for all the comments on my sexy engine bay! Now if I'd only get off my ass & yank the motor so I can install a new cam I might be able to drive it again. the AC is still a work in progress, I've got all the pieces just haven;t gotten to completing it I've been busy building a 383 for my satellite.

do what you can afford on the radiator setup, I got a total of about %350 all in for the rad work, fan & sensor I dont think it'll ever overheat.
