If you need custom rods then go for Argo in my opinion!

Try $1350 plus GST for Argo rods.
I just bought a set of PAR rods and they were $1265 a set. I should have bought Argo!

Due to some incredibly bad communication error on my part???? I must have ordered the wrong big end bush size for these wonderful fault free rods!!!.

When they arrived (2 weeks late), they delivered 19mm gudgeon pin little ends instead of 18mm. I cant recall increasing the pin diameter but hey I must have as they could not have made a mistake...... could they?????

Damn???? how could I get such a basic dimension wrong and realise it immediately the rods turned up????

Obviously I should have also told them to make the gudgeon boss 2mm narrower than they did so it did not hit the pistons gudgeon support boss before the pin could go through the rod. On questioning the reply I got was "we made it 2mm wider to give more support to the gudgeon pin" ! .

To add insult to injury I should also have told them it was for a 71mm bore. The diagonals across the big end were 71.6mm so they would not fit down the bore even with the caps off.

I obviously do need to upgrade my communicatons skills!!!

The end result is it cost me $540 to make a set of $1265 rods useable in the application.

Naturally they offered to make it right by sending them back to Sydney. After looking at the product I was "given" why would you bother.

I think they just draw something up and made it cause it looked good on screen. The rods are twice the stock rod weight I reckon.

I'm just going to take a really good communications course to prevent this sort of thing happening to me again!!!!!!!!!!!

Matt,
Some cars locally have trouble around the clutch cover area but most dont. I think there may be a small varaition in the OD of the clutch housings between gearboxes.
These headers are designed as a one fits all type and normally dont have much of a problem.

The US ones I have sold all have had this same clearance problem. Maybe your trans is slightly different diameter to ours???

What I was talking about was making a loop of steel to clamp around one pipe near the housing where it hits and run a tube back to some part of the engine or bell housing bolts so it pushes the tube away from where it hits. two gaskets just give some flexibility of position with minimal movement on the head face. If it was worth the effort this would be a way to keep the pipes pristine.

As side draught said, if a small dent was not a problem, the dent would have a very small effects on performance if any.

I expect it would be used on A12 engines up to A15's. The 78 mm bore would give plenty of breathing but would work on an A12 just as well.
A large stroke engine would be able to use the breathing capacity of the head a bit better

The biggest issue is the oiling and cooling as my original idea looks like it will have to be ditched in favour of using the A series cover.
This will require a modified cam chain drive with an extra idler pulley.

Andrew,
The A13 Bottom end is alive and well as is the head. About 10 hours work will have it all together. I am looking for a suitable vehicle to put it in.

D,
I dont know if they will ever get to a kit form but they will flow very well. Its like a mini SR with cam on bucket actuation.
I think I will try and keep the stock two chain system for simplicity.

The rest is enough of a challenge.

Michael,
What part is it hitting? is it the housing around the clutch or on the steering box area?

You can dent the pipe a small amount without having any noticable effect on flow. You may be able to solve the problem by fitting two gaskets joined with silicone. Fit a circle clamp to the pipe and then make up a strut back to the block to support it.

When it goes back to the area past the collector you fit a slip joint exhaust and this allows the engine to move without stressing the exhaust.
