A SERIES TWIN CAM A REAL POSSIBILITY!

While you were all at Datnats having fun,
the feral gnomes found a twin cam head that is a bolt up to the A series block. (See photo album or DATRATS.COM.AU
This head is a bolt up and can be adapted with a bit of TIG work, machining and fabrication.
The main problems are in order closing of the pushrod holes, moving some water galleries and modifying the cam drive.
I intend to keep on with this in spare time as I think its reasonably easily do-able.
Why bother? Because I can

The works 710 in that link to the works rally violet Matt put in is a gem. Its one of the Southern Cross rally cars.
Something even more interesting to people in Melbourne is the Stanza A10 next to the violet.
This is the Shekar Mehta car and entered by none other than Datsun GI DOBIE.

Gordon Dobie has just retired and shut up shop. A very interesting part of Australian and Melbourne motorsport history that car, and now we have to go to Japan to see it

The early engines (A10 & A12) thread pitch is different and later bolts do not fit. Flywheels are the same bolt PCD and diameter but the pitch is different.

I was just wondering if anyone knew the pitch or had measured the early bolt pitch?

I may have to do some stripping and measuring and not be so lazy

I will post the results when done.

Torque is rotational force times the distance the force is applied at, measured at the axle centre. It is expressed in foot pounds or newton (1 kg * 9.8) metres.

Actual drive torque experienced at the tyre surface varies as pi*D proportional to tyre/wheel diameter. Larger diameter = less torque. When the torque is measured at a particular tyre size rolling surface, this is tractive effort.

Hope this helps.

Can someone please provide the information on bolt thread lengths and pitch of the A10 and A12 flywheel bolts.
Also the flywheel contact face flange diameter would be handy
Thanks in advance

The 160J coupe was the australian stanza coupe.

The 1973 - 1977 140 and 160J's Mark 1 and 2 were the 710 in the US and Violets in Japan and some other markets.

The 1978 - 1979 140 and 160J's Mark 3 models were the 510/A10 in the US and stanza in Australia. In other markets it was called an Auster?? and in Japan a Violet.

The dyno was not calibrated for torque before your run I would say.

The figures you have are good for a stock Ca18DET but the torque figure does not make sense.

Horsepower is torque times engine speed divided by 5252. This means with 160.5 hp
it would be 550 times engine speed divided by 5252.
So engine speed would be (160.5*5252)/55o =1532.6 rpm

For example a typical 98 Chevy Winston Cup race engine with 12:1 CNC ported SB2 heads produces 720 HP at 7000 RPM and a maximum of 540 ft lb torque at 5500 rpm.

I calculate the torque at 6800 rpm as 160.5*5252/6800=123.9 ft/lbs torque.
Still a very respectable figure at 6800 rpm.
In a 1200 its rocket material.
