Ok - sorry for the delay in getting back about this one.

I went out and bought myself a new thermostat - from a different place and fitted it... now the temperature sits on about 70-80 degrees (at which stage the thermo fan comes on and caps any further temperature rise). So it would seem that the problem is solved. I'm thinking that it was maybe a faulty couple of thermostats.

now another question - what's the bad effects of having the water temperature so low when running at speed? I know my previous 40 degrees was too low but I always thought a cooler engine was a good thing.

Hi guys,

Firstly I've checked out the tech section to try to find out what is going on to no avail...

Here's my problem.

My water temp sit's at about 80 degrees but only after a long period of warming up, and by a long period I mean 20 minutes...

Now as soon as I'm on the move - (even if it hit's 38 degrees in Sydney like the other week) - it will drop to 40 degrees after about a minute of running.

I've had 3 thermostats in there, had my gauge checked - everything is ok.

Should I be worried about running the car with the temp only at 40 degrees... sometimes even lower?

Matt.

Just an update - I took my wheels to a few places around Sydney - including one or two mentioned already... and most put me in the 'too hard basket'.

I'm tired of going to so called modification places where all they really do do is replace a part with something else - that's not modifying (well not in the true sense) it's just replacing.

Anyway I found my way to Top Tyres at Blacktown and seriously I have never encountered a more helpful bunch. They really thought about what they could do - and if a problem came up they just figured out how to solve it. I have not got my wheels back yet but I need not worry - I was left with the reassuring words "Don't worry - we will figure something out no matter what".

When was the last time anyone heard that and actually believed it?

thanks for the reply... Just looking to get my current steel wheels widened.

Was also thinking of getting a space saver wheel made up too. But I just thought of that one.

I've been using a fuel additive, made by Nulon (cannot remember it's name - costs about $15 for a litre) for the past two years with premium unleaded and have had no problems.

$15 for peace of mind is worth it in my books - and a bottle will last you close to a year if you fill up once a week.

The only thing that I have noticed is that my plugs seem to foul a bit quicker than before... can anyone shed any light on that one for me?

Anyone know a place in Sydney (Australia) that can modify steel car rims?

Thanks

Matt.

Sorry... I might be exposing mself here for not knowing a thing but what do you mean by an NA?

I'll probably figure it out as soon as I press 'SEND'.

I've just come across one in my local mechanic's place - owned by an English chick that's wanting to sell it because she is going back to the UK.

I took it for a blast around Sydney City - Australia... and was quite impressed... makes an MGB feel like Model T.

Not sure what she wants for it but think it's around the 10K mark.

pro-240c - I would love to drive one with a CA18DE in it!

Matt.

What would an above average Datsun Fairlady be worth? not mint... but it's in perfect daily working order.
