Well i was thinking along the lines of alot of other people here, mechanical engineering or automotive engineering coz here in Tassie i think we've got bugger all at the moment...
But im kinda stuffed as im not really a good sciency/maths person but i love the whole aspect of the hands on mechanical things. I MIGHT do Stage 2 Pure maths (maths methods i think is what its called now) which has calculus, limits all that weird a$$ed shizen but im heading towards Maths Applied which is more everyday life maths but is still a Pre Tertiary subject so it will give me a score.

Im completley the opposite, im good at english, love music (performance), and legal stuff but there are SOME back door ways to get into engineering arent there??

Advice great!
Dave

Sounds like i aint original anymore!!!
Im thinking of travelling along this path but i need to ask, what are the pre-requisits for this course at uni?
What do i have to attempt at skool to be able to get into this field, or can i opt for apprenticship and go like that??

Yeah and its ok for some! Our prinicpal CANCELLED muck up week for this yr's grade 12's and its a crock of ####...
He said it ruins the school moto and symbolism, what a bunch of wank!

But ive had a vision since gr7, to fully fill a courtyard area with shaving cream or fill a dodgy old paddock basher (definatley not a datsun) with cream or the alike and leave it where everyone can view!!! or better yet try and drive it hahahaha

Jelly or mud restling goes down a treat

Or a really anus trick is fill a water pistol of decomposed, liquiified old horse manure, this is what a mate of mine did 2 years back, gawd it wasnt pretty.....

Yeah pigs good, janitor most prob not picked for the brains and wouldnt know what hit him !!!!!

As you mite have gathered im relativley new to the car scene but as most do, am learning quick and loving every minute of it!!!!
but with a mates help who knows a fair bit about re-building engines how long are we talking here? 2 months at the most? Ive got 3 and a half months break and would like to get it all done before christmas, am i asking to much or is this a resonable target if i were to start on the 25 of Nov and get a complete overhaul of the engine done?

ORRR

Should i get it professionaly done? Here in Tassie the best quote i got so far was $1250 with a bit of head work.... Surley this is quite expensive!!!
oh and how much in parts are we talking here if i were to do it (rough estimate)

Advice greatly appreciated....
Dave

oh and the white smoke is in the morning but does have a blackish grey tinge but during the day tis blacky grey

yeah i aint pissed off at the engine, im annoyed at the old bloke who owned it before hand who did NOTHING to it, like keep it in good condition..he just bashed it round and didnt look after it...

Right well the next question is, how much would it cost to do myself? OR should i get it professionaly done?? Here in tassie ive got about 5 quotes from plp and the all said over $1250 :O:O:O which is quite alot i think!!!

What about going over to the mainland and piking one up?
Wat would need replacing, just rings, seals, gaskets, bearings what else would be useful at the same time??

Cheers

I know this topic has been brought up alot but all the examples hasnt really touched on my probs in a nutshell!!!

My Sunny in the morning blows an incredible amount of smoke when i start it up and when reving increases as the RPM's do aswell, this dies down after awhile but it still continues to blow smoke during the daily driving. Its not blue smoke, its light white-grey in the morning and grey-black when engine at operating temp...

Am i right in stating the my piston rings have gone therefore letting oil in the cylinder chamber or my valve stem seals therefore getting in thru the rockers??

Would it be worth fixing this tired A15 (350 000k old) or purchasing a recod one as im moderatley modifing the wagon....

Any post i put on here seems to be that i have a problem! DAMN MY DATSUN!!!!!

Cheers
Dave

AS said: Datsun's are simple, easy, simple, look great and did i mention simple??

I dont know what it is with the Japs, they create some ####e but they hit a great note with Nissan's and Datto's!!!!
Being thru 2 Datsun Sunnys and about to RE-fix my wagon for about the 3rd time i know you pain......
Bought for $500 from wreakers not rego'd had to replace alot of things, wont go into detail! then radiator shagged, ARG, then welsh plugs went and now my starter and loom have bad terminals and my seals n gaskets have gone oh and i have no boot struts and perspex drivers side window ...........ahhhh what a life!!!

Cheers
Dave

But the weird thing is, why do we still go back to them??!!!

Im just asking this and seeing if any body on here from Launnie has actualy managed to find one around here!!!
