Don't sell it , you will never find another one, fix this one instead of the other two

I just got my l20b into my 1200, I got away with the standard tunnel using a bluebird 5 speed , I had to scollop the xmember and make up my own mounts though , wasn't hard took me about 4 hours all up and I used the v8 rover engine mounts, the l20b is the tallest and I have about 20mm clearance from the bonnet , in my opinion its not a hard conversion to have the motor and box mounted up

Yeah I used 2.5mm though , it looks pretty much like the one pictured just the cut out is deeper, and it has a thicker plate on the bottom of the xmember , I think it will be fine just have to wait to get it tested though. Now to sort out the mounts

thanks for the replys i knotched my xmember today, i notched it abit more than the one pigdog posted, i left about 15mm from the bottom of the xmember to the top of the notch, then i unstitched the thin plate on the bottom of the xmember and welded a length of 5mm plate back on about double the length of the standard plate, hopefully its strong enough, if not i have another xmember to have another go at it, i just wanted to make sure it wasnt the notch in the xmember which would hold it up, so now to get the motor sitting roughly where i want it and see what to do with the sump/mounts

How much did you notch your xmember unfamiliar , do you have any pics, or if they are in your thread do you know what page they are on

I got a bluebird 5 speed for it, where are you located mate

For those who have done this conversion, did you have to modify your sump to get it low enough for the motor to clear the bonnet, also what needs to be done to the tunnel, it says in the wiki abit of massaging is needed but it looks like ill need to do a new tunnel possibly a 200b or similar

hey mate as i just found out its near impossable to find a registered datsun which isnt completly stuffed for under about 3000
let alone a 1200 sedan, people just aint selling them, i couldnt find a decent datsun in nsw for sale and i had 5g to spend
even 120ys with panel damage and rust with no rego are fetching nearly 2000
