I'd be suprised if you had any difficult finding somebody there to reset leaves. I had this done on my B120 not long ago and most spring specialists i called could do it but the price varied a lot. In the end I went with a very long established company as I figured they would have the experience and get it right, plus they had on of the cheapest prices around. They do them cold and charged me the equivelent of about $120AU to do a pair. I know it's not directly helpful as I'm in another country but I figure of most spring places here can do it, I doubt it'll be any different there.

FWIW I have tried various methods of flipping leaves etc and the outcome has always been a dreadful ride so I wouldn't try that. Good luck with it anyway.

The UK is ( or was ) one of those places where LPG conversions seemed like a good idea, propane was really cheap for a number of years.

There really are options to petrol if you're willing to change your ways.

I had kind of forgotten that you can get petrol 24/7 when i drive the petrol car it's kind of foreign.

At the moment LPG is just under half the cost of petrol but this is under an EU agreement which was to last ten years. That period ends next year i think and I'll wager the government will whack the tax onto LPG. They did something similar with diesel in the past. The price of diesel was help down well below that of petrol until the point where 1 in 3 new cars sold was a diesel then BANG on goes the big tax and now it's more expensive than diesel.

The uptake on LPG hasn't been quite as fast as people expected and as such you can't get it everywhere unfortunately. You still have to have dual fuel capability because of this.

I did run my 4x4 on vegetable oil for a bit and it went fine on that but here it's illegal unless you pay fuel duty on it. Of course if you do that it's then no cheaper than diesel

Damn, we haven't had ice like that here since I was a kid. We barely even seem to get snow any more That looks a total hoot...I'd love to have a go.

My SA built ute had a factory label on it when I got it showing the weight as 725kg. That's for a 1981 model (round headlight, chrome bumpers, a14). I have some specs on the later ute showing it as either 758kg for the base model or 772kg for the 1400 champ (again, an SA model)

Talking of weight, does anyone know the exact weight of a 1200 ute. Heard heaps of figures but does anyone know the official figure?

SR20 would be more expensive to buy but cheaper to get good power out of. Also no fitting kits that I know of compared to CA18 kits.

I think SR20 is still legal in ACT also?

i believe ratdat is interested in the project but not to actually purchase

No, I'm definately up for purchasing one It'll probably be the only opportunity I have to get one. Remember, my neighbour runs a huge engineering company so it's not such a problem to get smaller valve train parts fabricated or even the major maching operations on the casting done.

If only my slide throttle manifold was for an AY rather than an A... that would make such a nice engine!

Long time since I popped in to this place but this subject demands my full attention! Very interesting pictures. It's the first time I've seen the distributor drive setup on an AY, although sadly it leaves us none the wiser as to the plug lead arrangement.

If you can get 40 orders then I'm in for sure. Not sure I could stretch to 900 euros unfortunately.
