We found that when tuning su's, the best way to get them to run sweetly was to pull the piston out and give it a quick going over with some 1200 wet and dry sandpaper(wet with ditergen). Do the same with the bore, only lightly on both then reasemble.
For quicker throttle responce, we used sewing machine oil. Worked like a dream

2332owner, thanks for ur advise, it has been well noted.
And you are absolutely correct in saying that the ratio is 1:1 in 2wd high. Thanks for the input.
You are also correct in saying that my current setup hasn't been tried... by me at least. The previous owner of the car recommended that a 5 speed be put in place of the 4 speed as the revs are not at a desireable level when highway cruizing. This person was also responsible for the A14 conversion, which is not an uncommon mod.
I apologise sincerely for being new to this forum and not understanding the background that other members are comming from. The information is apreciated, but unlike other forums the suggestions comming are sometimes not in relation to the question.
The A14 that the work is being performed on is the smallest engine that i've ever worked on, and the LJ is the smallest car i've ever worked on, yet its proving to be the hardest when scavenging for consistant information.
Once again, I apologise for not understanding the way this forum works, any more help/suggestions would be greatly apreciated, but please, in relation to my questions :)
Also no offence is meant by this post. I'm comming from a big six/V8 background, but am trying to stray to things that are more fun to play with and don't cost a fortune to run :P

D, yes i understand that.
Forgive me for not being more precise. I currently have the 4 speed, in a Suzuki LJ80 4x4. After drive has gone through 4th, then through the transfer case, THEN through 4.11+ gears, the lil motor will be screaming to get to 100km/h.
I want to go with the 5speed to drop the higher speed revs, even if its only by 500rpm, its still an improvement. If all else fails i'll make a longer tail shaft, and remove the transfer for highway driving.

Purchasing a 4 speed would leave me with 2 4 speeds, and no closer to getting revs down at 90-100km/h after power is sent through a transfer case.
I forgot to put in original post :-
No time wasters please

Hey again ppls,
Thanks for the imput, muchly apreciated, however i think theres been a little bit of a misunderstanding. The vehical is going to be used for serious off road use, and the reason behind not wanting carbies, is I do not want the engine being starved of fuel when the car is at near tipping over angles. Also, I was aware of where the SC12 came from, and what its capable of doing.
In answer to the other questions, the head has been completely recond. Hardend seats, new springs, new valves etc. The ports have been cleaned up as well.
The Microtech was recommended to be by MazFix, who might I add now own the fastest Rotaaaaar in the world ;), so if it daint work, i'll blame them haha
