Hi. I'm looking for an oval port head, dead or alive. I am porting one and I need another one to cut up and measure for water and oil port clearances. Does any body have one?? I don't care if it is cracked, warped, etc.
Daniel.

haha, thats not a terrible whine...our's must be at least twice as loud as that one. It actually sounds a lot like the v8 supercar in-car footage, so I reckon you have plenty of life left in that diff, hehe!

Yeah, I used to hold it flat till I flicked it into turn one then very lightly held a very small amount of brake on around turn 1, straightened and braked hard. That was my normal method. But for this round we turned down a lighter flywheel and...oh my god, what a difference that made!! It didn't seem to make much difference on the 'go' pedal, but it pulled up so much quicker!
I was hunting for new brake markers all day!

Hi Aiden,

It was great to get back out on the track with you and Chris after not racing for about three years. You and your car have improved heaps, which is great to see. Unfortunately, me and mick have gone the opposite way. Your car sounds awsome on the video. We had our camera running too, but it always has distorted sound.

That was Michael in the car on that run, and I believe your last run of the day, right??

Daniel

Thanks for all the input guys!

Jmac: Excellent information - Thanks very much! I've tried similar methods to the one you presented. Your method produced the same length and slightly larger diameter than the method I've used previously.

Datto1000wagon: They look like a decent set of headers. They are the shortest shortest primary length I've seen on any 4-1's for a Datsun.

My gut feeling is the same as yours, Benny & 1000coupe. 4-1's are for the track and 4-2-1's are for the street. Thats the main reason why I'm kinda snobbing the JTS units at the moment, despite all the good reports they get on this website.

Got a price from the manufacturer, 'Liverpool Exhausts' for the hurricane 4-1's. They are $250 direct plus postage (which sounds really cheap to me). He's going to give me the diameters and lengths tomorrow. I'll post them up when I get them. Oh, and the Hurricane headers are Mandrel bent, unlike the Hi-tec's.

Also, just to clear the air for others, the parts Stewart Wilkins Motorsport sell are the JTS items.

yeah, I've tried one set of 2nd handies. I couldn't tell what make they were but they were 4-1's. It fouled on the 1000 steering idler arm big time, but just dropped into the 1200.

Jeff Taylor tells me his JTS set will fit 1000's no problem. I've also heard from two people that the Hurricane's fit 1000's.

Custom headers are the most expensive, but may be the only way to get a good set of tuned headers. I would love to know the length of the primary pipes on the Hurricanes and Hi-Tecs.

I need a new set of extractors for the race car. I was hoping to find some information that would help me decide on which to go for:
1) JTS 4-2-1 for about $324
2) Hurricane 4-1's for about $500 [EDIT $250 direct from Liverpool Exhaust]
3) Hi-Tec for ????
4) Genies (need to find second hand)
5) Custom made race headers from a reputable local manufacturer for $800.

Also, does anyone have better prices than these?

Hi Everyone,

I was a bit disappointed last week when my new JTS manifold turned direct from Jeff Taylor. It doesn't have enough meet in the right places to match port it to my head.

So, I'm looking for a different style of dual weber inlet manifold. I know the Tomei manifold fit it but I'm unsure about any others.

If anybody wants to sell a manifold or swap for a brand new JTS manifold I'm all ears.

Also, if anybody wants to buy this new JTS manifold I'll sell it $50 cheaper than what I paid last week. Also got two manifold gaskets and a stud pack with it.

hehe!
There's a good chance you don't have a complete set of teeth on third gear anymore!
My bro managed to achieve this (hope your reading this Mick) in about 15 mins from a newly rebuild and never raced gearbox.
Well...I guess none of us would be here if we didn't crave garage time or possess blind love for our aging cars.
