I've got two standard carbys off an a12. One came off my 74 model and has no pollution crap and is in g/c minus the accelerator linkage, the other is from a later model and has some pollution gear on it and is complete but i have no idea if it works. I have original coil and a spare bosch transformer type coil. I've got some manifolds as well if u need them. What exactly do you need it all for? might be able to arrange for you to just borrow them.
wanted to know if any1 can recommend a workshop that can tune my 120y A12gx with 32/36 weber to perform @ its best. looking for somewhere south side of melbourne cheers in advance
Currently a student at RMIT and work in a icecream warehouse. Spend most of my week wishing that there was a specialised cause for restoring and modifying datsuns. At least at work i get to eat as much Dippin' Dots as i can fit
I wont be there :( Was looking forward to coming but had to take off the head to fit a GX. Just waiting on some bits before i can fit it all together. Any1 going to calder for the nis-dat drag challenge on the 25th March?
take lots of pics for those that cant make it to the cruise.
I'm having trouble with the timing for my 120y. It runs 32/36 dgav and was jetted and tuned 6 months a go by a carby place. I recently changed part of the ignition system and decided that i would check the timing as well. It was way out of manufactures specs of 5-7deg and was more like 30deg @ 1100rpm. I corrected it back down to 7'ish and leaned off the carby mixture and reduced the idle speed to 800rpm. It seemed to idle fine but not as smooth as i wanted. Took it for a drive the next day and found that it was getting bogged down. The bloody thing took forever to accelerate upto 2500rpm. I richened up the mixture and it seemed to help, but not much. I ended up setting the timing to 10deg @ 800rpm but have found it to still be a slug. What am i suppose to do, increase the timing even more and let it idle higher? It would accelerate a hell of lot better before i played with the timing, but it wouldn't hold the revs below 800rpm.
I wanted to port the head off the engine i picked up, whilst keeping my original up and running. Replacing the worked head with the original and adding an exhaust system was as far as i wanted to get for the present time. Wasn't planning on doing a full rebuild of the spare engine, but was dreaming about making a turbo setup for it. Was seriously thinking about dropping an A15 in but then it still wouldn't solve the problems that already exist.
There are lots of things i would like to do but it all comes down to money, time and effort.
I think the guy wants more like 500+ !!! He seems to think its worth the price of manufacturing an A12 into GX specs.
I'll find out at the end of the week how much he will let me have it for.
Does any1 have any pricing for porting an A12 to GX specs?
I went to a local head place and he wanted 300+ for a mild port and polish not including any valve work. He must have had his hand on it when i asked him.
I had a mate who used twin V8 mufflers on his gemi and it sounded like a beast, but it did have alot of work done to it. Has any1 had any experience with fitting these or hotdogs to their system, what did it sound like?
