I have been told that a cheap & easy way to get reverse is to rig up a starter motor in such a way that you get an electric reverse. Does anyone know any more.

I'm sure you are right. Everyone lies by omission to make a few a few bucks. I wonder, does this include:
Your accountant, Your butcher, Your doctor, Your dentist, Your phone company, Your internet provider,
The list goes on. Think about how you feel about these people applying your principles. It's scary.

Thanks everyone. It great to see everyone passing on their passion for dattos. I can't take the credit for her choice. She picked her own car & I bought one for myself after I drove it & loved it.

She said she wouldn't be caught dead in a crappy new hatchback. She is an artist so of course she can't have just any car.

My daughter got her learners on monday (at last) & we took her 1200 auto sedan for her first lesson. Before we went out we replaced the thermostat at it had seized shut (from sitting unused). And I do mean WE replaced it. Anyway, I don't think I have ever seen her so happy. She didn't believe me when I told her how much fun driving is. She sure does now. So if you see a brown datsun with an L plate, give us a wide berth for a while.

These problems aren't new. About 20 years ago I was driving my car to work (HK Holden) & the brakes suddenly failed completely. I would normally fix it myself as a quick check showed it was a failed master cylinder. As I had to go to work I dropped it at the nearest mechanics & asked him to find out what the problem was & fix it. When I went to pick it up, he said it was the master cylinder & he had replaced it with a new one. Great, I thought. Until I drove it. I had to pump the pedal up to get any brakes & even then they would lock up. I managed to get it home & tried to bleed the brakes myself. After no success, I pulled the cylinder off & took it down to the local parts dealer. He checked the serial numbers & I found out the mechanic had fitted a master cylinder for a drum brake front. Of course, mine had discs. What annoyed me wasn't that he made an honest mistake. It was that he must have known how dangerous the car was when he gave it back & he charged me for his stuff up.

What about a fibreglass beach buggy like the myer manx. I have seen them with a rotary & the weight is over the rear wheels which might help make more tyre smoke.

Is it possible to legally modify the radiator support bracket so that it's removable. I was thinking how much easier it would be taking motor & gearbox in & out, especially for an engine swap. (i'm in Queensland)

Weren't the older A/C units made for different gas & not suitable for the current type? I think the old type was a lot denser. Anyone know anymore?
