no I'm not a cop. I'm just one of the guys that gets tarred with the same brush as you by the cops. So I had to stop driving my Datsun everyday. Worked out for the best though, as it let me do all those things to make it a better car on the track that are simply out of the question for a car that you drive on the road every day.

but hey, if you are happy being a hoon, then good luck to ya. You'll need it with the laws they have these days. Hopefully you'll grow out of it before you lose your car

I wouldn't be too worried about lightening the flywheel on a turbo engine, especially if it is more for straight line performance than circuit use. The heavier flywheel that adds a little resistance (ie mass for the engine to accellerate) will help the engine flow slightly more gas (as the engine will be under greater load) in nuetral and 1st gear, and help the turbo 'spool up' or come on boost earlier than it would with a lighter flywheel. In theory anyway... In practice the difference may wel be negligible.

if you haven't upgraded the brakes, do that first or you won't be around long enough to enjoy the car. slotted rotors will do very little for the standard coupe brakes. I can't believe anyone bothers to make them!

what diff? I would go and ask some people with Mazdas. They will know what holds up behind rotary engines.

only people who will be able to answer your gearbox/trans tunnel question are those that have done the swap. I think that is probably one of the things you will have to work out yourself, as it isn't exactly a common swap. Plenty of trial fitments, measuring and removals coming your way.

engine and gearbox x-members will have to be fabricated or modified. I doubt anyone does conversion kits.

PS, I think it would be much cheaper to do a CA swap. Off the shelf bits available, plenty of people with knowledge about the swaps in this club, and with only external mods will be as fast as a bridgeport 12A.

i know that for a cert i wont need bigger brakes
where are you from datscoupe? have you already upgraded the brakes?

i will be able to do most things apart from manufacter and weld so how much will it all cost me do you think?

you will need to get engine and gearbox x-members fabricated, and get a custom tailshaft with bigger unis. You would be mad to do the custom tailshaft to suit a standard 1200 diff and modify the tailshaft again when you upgrade the diff. may also need to fit an auto tunnel. You may have clearance problems with the steering box (if rhd) as the inlet and exhaust are on the opposite side to the datsun motor, but I have seen rotary powered 1200's so it is possible.

no offence, but you might be better of buying an RX3 or something

technical hitch when I went to actually do this at the Transport Office. They apparently need a letter from your car club to confirm the vehicle is 30 years old - despite the fact that the registration details kept by Queensland Transport and printed on your registration certificate, which are confirmed by an approved inspection officer and Queensland Transport officer, show the year of manufacture! bizzare!

and since my coupe is now 30 years old it's eligible for Special Interest Concessional Registration as a "Classic vehicle", which is $140 for 12 months instead of the normal rego $558.50

I could afford to register all 3 of my Datsuns and still have change left over!

There are restrictions though. You can only drive the car to and from events or club meetings, places of repair, or in preparation for events. You can drive the car within 15km radius of its garaged location anytime for road testing purposes. But I have been doing that for the last couple of years anyway and paying full price.

Dragongoose hasn't popped in for a month or two, but he has a Sunny 310 with SR20 conversion.

I believe (from memory of what Dragongoose has said) that the Stanza and Gazelle rear ends also bolt in. You could use the search feature for some stuff that has been discussed about 310's
