so with the slightly different distributor curve would it be as simple as just swapping the a15 distributor with the auto A12 engine distributor? where would I go to get my distributor regraphed to suit an engine anyway?

well this is interesting... I have looked at my engine and it has modified engine mounts to sit the motor back an inch and a bit, the distributor is in the middle of the block and the alternator is on the left hand side I am thinking the engine is an A12 from the 120Y bolted to my 3 speed auto, the auto is awesome and shifts hard with no slippage but is a pain in the ass when your setting off to work on a cold morning and a poorly tuned A12! I have to get the revs up with the accelerator hold he brake down and put her in first or drive so she wont stall on me! So how can I tell exactly what Auto box I have? I took some pics but the site won't let me upload them?

yeah mate they are very few and far between the closest I found was an A12GX which I sold in favour of Converted's old race engine A15 Hi-Po and now I am back to an A12 and three speed auto so I am also scoping the adverts for and A14 or A15 not sure how the little auto will hold up to the extra CC's though

Another thing I have noticed is the spark plugs are NGK BP5ES which I am told are the hottest plugs for the A series motors, would this be making the motor harder to start when it is cold? I am going to try setting the points gap to the minimal clearance and set the plug gap to the minimal clearance then adjust the valve clearances to the hot clearances when the engine is warm, then set ignition timing then carb idle speed then re check everything again, I had a few moments in the morning when the car would miss under hard acceleration, I have a new radiator and new thermostat so once warm the engine sits at just under half on the scale I am not sure if the miss is ignition related or carb related but the fuel level is spot on in the sight glass

thanks heaps for the help I was thinking that the problem would be condensation from the night air affecting the points but I have bought a can of water dispersing spray and a can of "Start Ya Bastard" just in case, I have a pair of Navara headlights fitted with the yellow/blue bulbs that some mates have said could be draining the battery more than the alternator can recharge it?

Righto gang before I head out and buy new plugs, dizzy cap, condensor, leads and a 1741 pertronix ignitor kit with 40,000v coil is there a way I can make my 1973 1200 sedan start when its below 5 degrees in the morning? I tried to start it this morning but she just wouldn't fire, it would turn over then sound like it was trying to fire but the battery went flat before I got it started so I rode my motorbike to work with my teeth since my hands froze off half way there
