one of my mates from work had a 120Y and he managed to dig a trench deep enough to wedge the car in up to the bumpers by doing a burnout in second gear around a tree on a local bush track for about 20 minutes ended up seizing the engine trying to get it out, but after it cooled down he filled it with water and it ran again.....for years!!!! he swears they are from hell and are simply invinceable

I sold my commodore for $7000 to a work mate who owned a datsun 1200 coupe and we laughed and joked about doing his datsun 1200 up, I toyed with the idea about buying it and putting in a CA18DET but thought it would have cost too much, I was already chasing a VX supercarged V6 commodore after all so I left him with my old car and went on with my business.
7 months later after searching high and low for a V6 supercharged VX I finally gave up and began thinking about the old datto again, I gave in to my weird ideas of a quick little datto to travel to work and back, and with the petrol prices going up and up and up I was convinced to buy the datto, now I have an exrace A15 engine with twin weber carbs, vacuum assisted brakes, new steering wheel and 13 X 6.5 mags, and I got a VX supercharged V6 too in the end

I found this web site http://www.web-cars.com/math/qtr_mile.html I don't know how accurate it is but for a rough guide I think could help I am worried about your 4 speed though, I suspct they could be made of plastic or some kind of soft cheese

you could get away with fitting a GX head with double valve springs, street cam and a bit of mild porting on the head.
$120 for a cam regrind
$1000-$1500 for a GX head or A15 closed chamber head with porting job and double valve springs with a well set up pair of dellortos on an A12 you could get maybe 85 hp at the wheels

this looks like a great project for someone who is willing to give up a weekend and a bit of spare dough to see if it will work I was thinking earlier about a gas research carby with a turbo draw through set up but have no idea about what needs to be done to the head to prepare it for a gas only conversion.
Also is this CDI unit similar to the carby shaped injection set up on the Opel/Holden Barinas

wow $3000 on an engine only eh! that should be a fun motor
I would start with having the block cleaned up and bored out to 1600cc's have the crank knife edged and balanced, rods shotpeened and balanced then some high comp pistons with standard nissan or king compression rings, oil rings and bearings. I would have the head shaved to a comprssion ratio of 11.5:1 and fitted with cut down 1600 valves and ported out to a JTS manifold gasket print and polished up, fit a set of double valve springs, 54/86 cam shaft with adjustable cam gear and timing cover from datrats, fit a bluebird dizzy with A series sprocket, electric water pump, TF gemini radiator, twin weber carbs, lightened fly wheel, jet hot coated inside and outside mandrel bent extractors, fill it up with synthetic oil and hich octane fuel and give it a blast yeeeehaaa

I would love to race the coupe but I definateley do not have enough spare time, cash or racecar know how to be in the top 10 consistently so instead I will settle for the cheap fuel consumption, fun to drive, reliability and retro styling of the coupe! I did however dabble in motorcycle road racing and began to get consistently faster lap times on my road bike but unfortunateley I lost a close mate in a motorcycle T-bone accident after spending 5 hours riding with him the same day. Now I know that I could never get on a bike and ride the way I could before, be it a road bike or race bike but any way heres a couple of pics for old time sake Open in new window

it was the yellow coupe with PEDDERS signage across the side, I think it had a mean appearance from the front end
