ok, well maybe I was exaggerating a little..
but the truth is that we are building cars that handle better, stop better, are more economical and output less emissions than most new cars 99% of the time. it is unfortunate that we are lumbered with the ICV moniker whereas the hotrod guys have such an easier, defined path. what we need is an astute body to lobby the powers that be and introduce some more pertainent guidelines as was done for the hotrod guys.
and I will back part of my original statement with the living example of the street legal merlin engined rod built by rod hadfield.

luckily you guys are allowed to go the cheap route and use older engines while us aussies have to install 89 or later EFI motors grrrr!
because 7s are considered ICV's (individually constructed vehicles) while the hotrod guys can take a single rusty crossmember out of a 32 roadster and build everything else custom and use a rolls royce merlin if they want to!

I am actually considering building a seven next year, though of the Locost variety (completely DIY) always wanted to own a classic english sportscar (of sorts)

yea low1000 is right, I worked at a fibreglass boat place for a while, and you have to go to a little more trouble than you guys might think.

on the off chance you could get hold of a mould it would be worthwhile. especially if it was of a vacuum bagged variety where you spray gelcoat onto the mould and then position the various layers of glass on top and finally put the whole thing under vacuum via sealed plastic sheeting or 2nd mould half and infuse the resin. when the resin is finally cured you split the product away from the mould (mould is waxed to allow release) the gelcoat on the product results in a finish like a professional paintjob straight off the mould.

but making a mould would involve hours of messing around with plywood sheeting and sanding back styrofoam, filling and sanding with plaster of paris till its as smooth as a babies butt.. making sure all the angles are correct. rah rah..

well, I checked my 3 bolt manifold which is single outlet. it has H86 clearly stamped into the side of it and has a rather large outlet (about 2 inches) it is off a 1000 I think

yea , actually I noticed there was some play in the flapper valve shaft with no apparent seal to the atmosphere. Its just the standard two bolt manifold I have at the moment, although I do have a three bolt manifold in my spare parts collection. I might try ripping out the flapper valve assembly and tapping out the hole and plugging with a bolt. failing that will upgrade to the 3 bolt header, need the bottom flange tho

Are you sure it is coming from the flange?
A very common problem was leakage past the worn shaft & bushes of the hot spot flapper valve.

This was one of the advantages of the 1000 coupe exhaust manifold that i ran in my sedan before i got my tri-Y's This manifold has no flapper valve, but has a three bolt flange with a regular gasket & a dual GX-like outlet. For an A12 with mild specs & an original single carb manifold, they are the go.

Hi there

Just put a new clutch in my 120Y wagon, which had a leak from the ex. flange from the start. put lots of maniseal on the flange and tightened it well on reinstallation. now it still has the leak which is noisy and makes the engine run crap. it looks like there is still a decent gap between the two sides of the flange too. I asked at supercheap and they rang the guy at walker who said they didnt use a gasket. Is he telling the truth? (he gave me some hi-temp RTV stuff to use which I will try as a last resort)

just got myself a 74 120 WHY? wagon.. sometimes you just have to do things in your adult life you promise yourself against as a kid.. the body is almost as straight as a pin with hardly any rust, just needs replacing the slipping clutch (which i have sitting in my spares) and the diff is whiney.. will help me save some money for a neat ute.

and a unlic 76 1200 ute that I am about to sell (before you ask there is alot of metal work involved)
