Hi .
I am looking at getting some ngk iridium plugs for my car. the only thing is, on the website they recommend the 5, which is a hotter plug than the 6 they say for the L series. In light that I have a slightly modified engine and it would be.. seeing more revs on a daily basis - would it be smarter to go down a heat range from that recommended?

battery relocation / alternator swap

having already roughly completed relocating my battery to the boot , I am wondering if it makes sense to put it on the passenger side instead of the usual drivers side.. this would help in counteracting the torsional twist effect would it not? is there a reason that people usually put it on the drivers side or is it just because that most cars have their starters on that side? btw I had the cable made up long enough to go on either side , it is 10mm heavy duty cable and I went up to an N50C batt .. really turns the thing over nicely now!

while I'm here I may as well ask what alternator options I have. I have seen a couple of kiwi rallycars on some webpage that had subaru alternators. what model do they come off and is it a direct fit onto the A series bracket? it would be really nice to get one of those modern curved style ones.
there was some webpage that had an A15 industrial engine that had the perfect one, but they wouldn't return my emails asking that the alternator brand and model was :(
any ideas?

so I guess they went to concave pistons in the 14/15 from the flattops of the A10/A12 to compensate for the lowering grade of fuel, and reducing compression without a major rethink of the head?

can anyone remember if the external ignitor model uses a ballast resistor for the coil?
also, if anyone finds one of the built in ignitor models , save it for me, this aussie buy!

Bathurst 73 - Moffat(a Canadian I think)/Geoghegan XA hartop won
Bathurst 74 - Goss/Bartlett won in another XA hardtop.
Then there was the famous Ford Dealer Team(headed by Moffat) 1-2 formation finish with the XB hardtops , but I can't remember what year that was.
.

yes but you failed to list that the torana had won the previous year.. P brocks first of 9 victories on the mountain I might add! (still the most ever) and the reason they didnt win in 73 is because they miscalculated their fueling stops and ran out just at the bottom of the hill before pit lane. the 53 yr old doug chivas had no hope of pushing the torrie up the incline himself and something due to rules the pitcrew couldnt come and give help for 5 minutes... when they got it back up and running brock was almost catching moffat but had a blowout which ended it all.

74 was a non event for torana because of the L34 engines they had developed for the new, bigger V8 SLR 5000's .. apparently their was a piston ring mis-spec in the development program.. which hadnt shown up in the touring car round sprint races. but in the long distance enduro of bathurst the toranas were dropping like flies with massive blowby.. if you watch any of the videos you can see many of them retiring spewing out black smoke..

magpies, crows same thing... I'll support my home team soon as they lose the anchor ;)

btw beyond thunderdome was mad max 3 not 2..

save buying a new standard carb
why not put a DGV weber on with an adaptor? it wil return same fuel economy and breathe better throughout the rev range. and cost the same or less too!
if you do, remember to grind out the divider on the stock manifold and get a porting tool and match the bore on the manifold to that of the adaptor.. otherwise not much point doing it.

the car in mad max was a XB ford falcon falcon hardtop (coupe) it was fitted with a 351 ci v8 .. but the supercharger was a fake prop with hollow internals that fitted over the top of the standard carb.
these were the sort of cars that were raced at mount panorama , bathurst. but often had their asses kicked by cars like the nimble little 3300 cc torana XU-1 six..

yes the beegees were quick to distance themselves from australia when fame and fortune came their way weren't they? just like mick malthouse defecting over to the crows after all the work he did for the eagles!

I was actually going to start a thread about this , but someone has beaten me to it ;)
what I wanna know is, what 70s jap car wheels fit the 1200 stud pattern?
eg I know corona wheels do...
if honda rims fit i'll be laughing.. honda city turbos come out with a rather nice mag factory.

about 96 cents per litre for premium unleaded... which isnt too bad seeing ive only got 35 litres of tank to fill in a 640 kg car...
