I was talking to a guy when I was on the scent of the Bathurst coupe. He was a GTR nut but I tried to convert him to the mighty twelvies in the short time I had. All his arguments amounted to nothing in the face of the applied logic I was hammering him with - I was kind of a combination of Chris Lott, lump_of_charcoal and MareoSpeedwagon1. At times I even scared myself!! Anyway I reckon that he has seen the light and come over to the 1200 side. Who are you gtr777au?

Hey Angelo - how fast was that concrete truck going?! That's a heck of a hit - what was it? Glad it was the US and you were sitting on the left - it makes us right hand drivers wince a little to see that much deformation! Happy Hunting!

Despite my best efforts I got a guy here at work who wants to buy a ute. Standard is fine - any for sale in the Sydney area? Thanks.

Well it's a bit embarassing to admit that I had trouble sleeping last night - kept thinking I might be seeing THE BATHHURST coupe today! It's amazing how these cars get into your blood. The present owner - top bloke too - has had the car since '88 when he picked it up as a rally car (well done Stirling). He converted it back to hard track and had much success with it. It did originally pull 11000 down Conrod Straight at 129mph. It is apparently pretty unscathed despite being barrel rolled at Surfers Paradise before present owner got it. He is going to restore it back to original 1973 specs and doesn't plan on racing it as intensively as he did due to its history. The only thing he noticed was that the rear was definitely widened -stuck a back seat in it and there was plenty of space either side - again well done Stirling! I'm wondering if they did the front as well? The chassis and driveline were blue printed at the factory. Unfortunately I didn't get to see the coupe as it was at another location. I told the owner about this club so hope he'll check it out and post pictures etc.

Yeah Linc you'll probably find that there is a bit of corrosion on the bore that is preventing the piston from returning. Pull both calipers off, remove the pistons and inspect the bore. If it's not too bad then you can give them a clean with steel wool. If the bore is pitted it will chew your o-rings up and eventually it'll leak and fail. Always replace the seals and o-rings after popping a piston. PS Looked over a 2 door sedan, a coupe, and a four door sedan in a back yard today - full on Datsun twelvie experience!

Welcome James - it's great to have someone with the 1200's old man as a ride. We love our heritage! There are a lot of knowledgeable members in this club who can offer great advice re: engine and suspension mods. There is even one who has tips on using your 1200 to cook food and refloat sunken boats. Ask away!

Hi Peter, Is it possible for you to post a few messages letting us know how the race season is going? Details of the preparations and dices on the track etc. Have you got a website that we can check out? I know many of the club members have an interest in racing 1200's so it would be great to hear how you do in SCCA.

Hi Will, It depends what a 1200 Sport is. If it is the standard single carb A12 with a 3.9 rear and 4 speed you can expect highway figures of over 40 mpg without trying too hard. Fuel type, speed, individual engine tune and condition, tyre size, weather conditions and driver skill will determine how high she'll go.

I am fully stoked - and it's not just Chris Lott's story about the sunken boat! I have been helping a guy check out race cars and we are off to look at another one this weekend. The guy who wants to sell it mentioned he had some Datsun 1200 coupes as well. Apparently he has the ex-factory 1200 coupe that won Bathhurst! You guys got anything you want me to check out? I know it appeared to have 5 stud wheels in the Photo gallery - I'll look for those. This is going to be a full on weekend I can tell - woo hoo!!.
