Hi again,

Finally got some new rims for the datto - so these rims are now for sale - not for swap.

After taking them off I learn that they are not 7s and 8s but actually 6.5" and 7" (I am a trained scientist and lecturer and it appears I am no longer capable of using a tape measure :) ). Good 205*60*13 tyres with lots of tread.

Best offer.

They're in Launceston, Tasmania.

See the original post for a link to a picture of them.

Cheers,
Brad

Hi All,

Anyone want to help diagnose this?

72' 1200 Ute with a banjo style diff. "grrr" grinding noise in the rear on the car at about 40mph. The grind has a period of about a second. The diff makes no other noise at speeds other than between 35 - 45 mph. The noise continues whether the car is coasting or under load (foot on the clutch and out of gear as well - noise continues).

What say you datsun gurus? Wheel bearings or diff bearings? I'm hoping because there isn't any other whining (its really a low frequency grinding noise) its not the pinion or crown which might be more effort.

Or am I way off? Can universal joints behave like this?

I've just checked the diff oil and its full to the fill hole and seems ok (I've yet to drain it to look for chunks of diff though ).

Just after a rough opinion as if its likely to be wheel bearings I'll do them myself - if its anything more I might just book it in...

Thanks,
Brad

Mine one broke nearer the knob.

Are these the same (or similar fit) on any other models? Or is it just the ute?

Thats very clear. In any case, I'll make sure I document the process step by step to add something back to this site.

Yep - I made sure I grabbed the sway bar. I took the master cylinder, struts and front lines.

At the moment, there appears to be a twin master cylinder in it with only the rear pot connected to a line which then goes to a distribution block that feeds all of the brake lines. Was this an original, quasi-twin circuit system? Or has someone replaced the master cylinder at some point? The master cylinder has two, same sized pots on it.

Whilst I'm bugging everyone:

Window winder handle promptly broke today...

Does anything else fit or am I looking on for an original 1200 part?

Driver's door hinges are stuffed...

Are these repairable?

If not, are the they same on other models or just 1200's or 1200 utes?

Cheers.
