My suspension terminology is a bit rough...

When you say "steering arms" do you mean the part attached to the strut that the tie rod end attaches to?

I'm just want to make sure I've gotten everything I need before I start - or do I need to go to the wrecker again?

Booster: No. The 120Y didn't have one on it either

Year: 1972

The sunny one was a perfect fit.

Also, a 120Y that I have been picking parts off looks as if its ignition assembly is the same as well. Looks the same plus the same model number as the sunny one. So I'd say it would be ok too.

Not sure of the year model of the cars that I picked parts from.

How much do you estimate it would raise the car?

I noticed the strut tops were different - is it worth swapping the tops? Will that lessen the raising of the vehicle?

Thanks for your replies.

Anyone got one? Mine appears to have been torn off!

These lids aren't the same size as any other model are they?

Hi All,

Are the 120Y struts a straight swap in a 72 ute?

I've scrounged up a 120Y conversion (master cyclinder, front struts, lines, etc) and thinking about doing it this week - wanting to know what surprises I'm going to have.

I haven't bothered picking out the rear slave cylinders yet - are they much different between the all drum and 120Y models size wise? Or is a proportioning valve a better option with these conversions?

Sorry for all the newbie questions, I'm new to the 1200 datsuns...

Cheers,
Brad

Thanks everyone for their comments.

I got a igntion switch form a 120y (just the switch not the lock, tumbler, etc) and found that it was completely different.

Sourced a lock, tumbler, etc from a datsun sunny. After pin punching out the two blank screws, the sunny one went in perfectly.

Cheaper than $80.

I bet it screws up next week

Hi All,

Would a 120Y steering box fit on a '72 1200 ute?

Cheers,
Brad

Mine is a 1972 model.

Switch has two screw lugs and is pin out compatible with a 120y switch (which is smaller and only has one lug).

Reckon stanza or sunny will fit a '72?

Thanks for your reply!

Hi,

I can get a genuine one from nissan for about $80.

But I'm feeling a bit cheap as I just unnecessairly replaced the starter motor . Are there any other options here? Is there any way to service a faulty switch? We the ute ones used on any other cars to widen my search at the wreckers?

Cheers,
Brad

Hi Guys,

Just bought a 1200 ute.

It has a set of mags on it (13*7s front and 13*8s rear) and good 205*60 rubber (around 80% tread).

I'm happy to take an offer of cash or preferably do a straight swap for a good set of near stock rims (narrower mags would be nicest).

I'm in Launceston, Tasmania.

Feeling like an old fart but these hang out of the guards and will only attract the coppers. She's just a work ute

See here:

for a photo of one of them. They all seem to be in fairly good nick.
