Im also a Ford man so I wouldnt hesitate at the HP 289 or 302, while your at it what about a 351 (big too big?).
Dont know if anyone has mentioned the Leyland P76 V8? I cant stand the cars but a mate of mine reckons they have strong V8s. 4.4 litres I think, all alloy? or alloy
head?
But what would top them all is one of those LEXUS V8's, what a power house with lots of potential. People are putting them in Commodores to Volvos. Might be a bit
exxy though $$$?
My bit, anyway

If Fanta Injection can triple your power output at the wheels, what would BEER Injection do? I only metion this because when I get a good squirt of beer I can go spastic (squirt:
see slab [24]). Imagine what the Dat could do under the influence of the amber liquid.
Would it be legal? Totally intoxicating:)

Help to Indentify a Carb

I have found a carb kicking around in my shed and I want to know what it is from and if it is any good. I got the carb with the coupes when I bough them. It was just in a box with some
other A12 carbs.
This carb looks similar to the standard A12 carb except it looks like it has some electronic stuff hanging off it. There is a black plastic cap at the back of the carb with a wire coming
out (automatic choke?), it also has a wire at the front of the carb.
I have no idea where the wires are suppost to go. There is also 3 pipes that look the same as the A12 vacuum pipe on the engine side of the carb. The jet sizes are 40 and what looks like
99 (its 99 if you read it the same way as you read the 40).
It lines up perfectly on the standard A12 manifold. The accelerator linkage is the same as the A12 carb but with some extra arms hanging of it. There is also a black pipe on the car body
side of the carb, which runs from the lower part of the carb to the top where it plugs into a disk shaped thing.
Sorry I cant be any more descriptive, the only other thing I can see it the Hitachi symbol on the carb.
I have bolted it on and got the car running but I have no choke as the cable and carb dont mate up. It also doesnt idle at all. I have tried playing with the idle screw but still no idle.
The carb is VERY responsive and revs up a lot quicker than the standard A12 carb.
But what is it and how can I get it to idle??

Cheers for any help, sorry this was a long message.

If anyone is interested I found a great site at: www.mfoto.com.au They have photos of most Aussie rally events including state series. Even some of the events from here in Tassie.
Lots of 1200 Coupes, just do a search in the photo section for Datsun 1200.
Gotta love it, but tell me why no one knows about us here at Yahoo! Clubs. I am assuming this because I havent heard from any of these rally guys on our message board. Maybe they dont
have the net. I rekon these rally guys would have some good advice to tell us and some good yarns but I bet they dont know we exist!
Just a thought..

I find the cable clutch setup perfect. My mini has a hydraulic clutch and it pisses me off something cronic. The system can leak (mines doesnt), you have to keep the level up, you can get
air in the system etc etc. Mind you the gearbox in the Minis have a reputation for not being too crash hot. I love the old Datto 4 speeder. I have swapped over all my running gear into my
other coupe and just threw the clutch cable on and away I went. A slight adjustment and shes perfect. The gearbox is a hell of a lot smoother and the throw it much less than the mini.
Thats part of the reason the Mini is goin up for sale.

Cheers

The models are pretty cheap when you work it out. The 1200 Yen I think is $20 aussie dollars plus shipping so thats still cheap. What does the 1200 GX look like? Is that like the
green one on ebay a while back? What is the name for that one with the flares and spoilers -there is a pic in the photo albums of this one.

Fellas, she goes!!! Im so stoked. I pulled the carb off and checked it over, filled it with fuel and pumped it and everything seemed fine so I whacked it back on. After a little
hesitation she fired up! I thought something was wrong as it idled like a pig and back fired through the carb (must have been the fuel I put down it). Now the choke is connected it runs
fine! The shock of the accident must have just pulled something out of alignment.
In the words of the great Homer Simpson...WHOOO!!
It is so good to hear the 'ol Datto roar again, I havent bothered with the muffler, just the exhaust pipe so as you can imagine its loud in my shed!
Cheers for your help anyway guys.

As far as I know the fuel pump is working as the carb fuel bowl fills up to the correct level. Im going to have another look at it today. I will try swapping over the main body of the carb
and see if that helps. I cant work out why the car ran fine until the crash and now it wont start. Maybe the shock of the crash loosened some grit/dirt near the carb and this could have
been sucked in and is now blocking it up? I dont know...I get so pissed off working with the carb as it is easy to work on but so fidely and time consuming.
I also send my battery flat just turning the engine over to pump fuel into the carb, and by the time the carb has fuel and the engine tries to start the battery is on the way out!

Cheers for your help, any more advice?

Guys, I have just finished putting all my running gear into my coupe but it wont kick over. All the wiring is okay and I have checked for spark and it is there. I dont think Im getting
fuel. I dont have the fuel lines in to the tank so I am using a container under the fuel filter as my tank. There is fuel reaching the float bowl in the carb (standard carb). I think the
jets are stuffed again as when I push the accelerator pump down the fuel dribbles into the ventrui and doesnt squirt.
The car just whirrs over and over and trys to kick but wont go over! As a result of my accident could I have shocked something out of place? My dad reckons the timming could have been
knocked about but the engine was not touched when the crash happend, although the crossmember moved back and that sheared the engine off one of its rubber mounts.
