If the carby floot had sunk it would be flooding at idle. Reducing the plug gap helped maybe the coil is starting to breakdown, & is missfireing under hard load, maybe you could beg borrow or steal one just to test it. A series dont have a halmonic balencer they are just a steel pulley, very rare to come loose, you would get some niose or vibration if it did. Trev

Thanks, it's just a 4 speed so no big deal if it stuffs up, i'm practicing for when I do the 5 speed. A mate said he got the gearbox factory to machine the shaft down & use an under size bearing, but wouldn't they have to reharden it. Trev

I once coverered the lifters in thick grease & stuck them up so the cam could come out while the engine was still in the car, I then removed them got them ground & stuck them up with grease again so the new cam could be installed, it did work but i would pull the engine next time as the sump front cover radiator, grill, rockers & pushrods had to come off anyway. This is some of the main shafts I have, I'm trying to make up a good w56 120y box, is there a way of cleaning up the main shaft where the pilot bearing runs, the good one is out of a w60 sunny box , & is a different length, the other 2 are a bit stuffed can the better of the 2 be polished or can a speedy sleave or something else be done. Thanks Trev

That really pisses me off, mines better than your's, I would rather look at a as found in a farm shed for 20 yrs dato than a trailered to the show trophy, they all have carictor (i cant spell for ####) the ruffies are just as important to keep alive as the good ones, probably more so or they will dry up, 5 yrs ago your could find a dato parts car in the paper every week, try to find one now. Take the dizzy out, & take no. 1 spark plug out, turn the engine over by hand untill no. 1 piston is at the top, & the timming mark on the pully is at top dad centre, then put the dizzy back in so that the rotor button is pointing towards the no. 1 lead on the dizzy cap, try & start it, you cant hert anything, if it backfires badly (make sure the air cleaner is on) take the dizzy out (as it's 180deg out) turn the engine over one full turn & install as above. that gets you back to the original problem. Try taking fuel line off the carb & get some one to crank it for you & see how much fuel is getting through, could be stuffed pump or an obsruction is the line or tank. Trev Aus

I reckon the biggest problem with sealers is using to much, for the rear seal cut the nozzle close to the end & put a small bead just in the corner, to much & the seal slips everywhere untill it dries. Copper coat is good stuff for lubricating nuts & bolts, it used to be used on old copper head gasket, but when used on modern head gaskets it with stop the sticking affect, the blue ring around each hole in the gasket glues to the block & head. My cousins A15 runs 14:1 compession in his litre sprint car & often blows head gaskets. I've herd that Larry perkins araldited his heads on??? Trev

Pull the indicator stalk out put it on the bench put 12volts into the white wire, move the switch for left, check with a test light there should be power only coming out of one wire, do the same to the right. pull the switch apart & clean it, look for a bent piont that could be touching both left & right. the switch on the brake peddle is for your brake lights.
