Another bite of progress.

manage to fix the tub/cab area and completed most of the fwd part of the tub still a few little holes to go.

since the cab wall was rotted out I replaced the area using 50 x 20 x 1.6mm RHS.. I think it looks neater than trying to stitch sheet in.

Next job, fix the rust near the wheel arches and mini tub.

I havent done it but...

I would get the tape measure out and then be prepared to trim to shape and make mounting brackets to suit.

if you have seen it done, it can be done.

nice work...

I'm also doing a ute project with my stepson.. although at this point it's mainly me!

the inner guard looks repairable. I just ordered some prefab trailer guards from Guardian guards which could be handy in the repair. this may be of interest?

nice progress again Rob.

Just a quick question re: the repro guard.

My ute came with some of these "fitted" and most of the holes barely line up.. is yours the same?

Im having to weld up the old holes and re-drill with nutserts.

Like your engine mounts.

Cheers

thanks for posting those links, I had never heard about black oxide before..

would this be the "black chrome" finish they refer to on Suzuki GSXR fork legs?

is this process less expensive than chrome?

I like it...

thanks ZigZag

Unfamilia,

I will remove the wheel guards and see. They are saveable as a strip would just need to be welded in on the lower edge, the rest of them are quite OK. This amount of work would probably be the same as making some up tho.

Last night I decide to start to see the extent of the rust in the tray.
started with removing previous repairs from the cab wall to tray floor area.. it was sheeted up and bogged up. the welds just broke away and I blasted the rest away with a plasma cutter.

the plan is to repair the tray floor and add a box section to the lower cab wall, so I dont need to replicate the stamping on the wall.

I've also got more pics etc on my facebook if anybody is interested.

A couple more progress shots.
Got the drovers side floor done and outer sill.

got to do some of the tub before I close up the quarter.. joy oh joy... I'm probably almost half way.

still deciding if I should make new wheel tubs or not... prob easier than fixing them.
