Anyone got one spare around Melbourne. Prefer in good condition. For a ute (if its different?)

Also, does anyone know where/if to buy lenses new?? I wouldn't mind changing the front indicator/parkers lenses too.

If you are in Melbourne, try Clark Rubber.

I got the complete set for a ute for $490.

You could also try "Bill Thompson Auto rubber" or Rare Spares.

But never take their first price!!

David from Clark Rubber Dandenong was really good, and they source from Spectrum. He went out of his way to get my business and was eager to get more!!

I wreckon he'd even post it anywhere in Oz pretty cheap, and l paid over the phone with no probs.

If you're going to the effort of welding on flares, then have you considered panel beating a flare into the guard????

I did it to mine, got about and extra inch wider and fits my 15's (195's)with no rubbing issues (yes the car is low)

And it looks completely standard.....

Guys, l'm in Germany at the moment and these things are everywhere!!!! They love em........fuel prices are an issue here, and the streets are tiny....so l guess its a good car (if you can call it that!!) to get around in.....plus its easy to park.......

cant imagine driving one.....or getting in an accident on the autobahn............there wouldn't be much left!!!!

Perhaps some of the South African or New Zealand guys on this forum might be able to scan in some official nissan documentation stating such......

It'd sure make my life easier, and many other people in the same position.....

Perhaps there are even some contact details of relevant authorities to contact?????

I spoke to a "certificate writer" here in Melbourne, and apart from being a total moron, he told me that anything that increased power in stock form by more than 10% needed a certificate.

This means that any transplant would need a certificate.

I think that there have been some earlier discussions on this forum about the fact that the same car is currently produced with an A14....which would mean that all the factory supports and structure can support it.....therefore negating any need for an engineers certificate.....

but l again agree with the others....its who you deal with and how they feel. Which makes you wonder how ridiculous the whole system really is????

I'd make it yourself....depends on if you want steel or not.... but its pretty easy...

Measure up the sizes...go to a local steel workshop...they'll probably weld up the frame in gal for about $200.....

Then get some steel sheet, about 1.2mm thick, get it cut to size on a guillotine (maybe same shop), use some special metal bonding glue and your done....

Then go to the wreckers, get some bonnet hinges, and if you really want, a lock....while you are there, pick up some rear wagon gas struts....

If you can weld yourself this wouldn't cost more than $200 total...

Does this mean you aren't going ahead with the a15??? If you've got a 74 ute, then you should have no problems......

I'd call the engineer, let him know what you want to do..he'll tell you what else you need, then pay him and your off.....

If they are the only mods (engine & brakes), then it'll get through easy.....if you want to do it without an eng cert, this may be a little more difficult....

Lets not forget the fighter plane engine in the chevy...if thats allowed on the road (even though its limited) then anything is possible.

Dont listen to vicroads people....as one of them actually told me..."we dont have a clue about the technical side of things, we just do the paperwork"!!!!

Yeah, l think it's pretty stupid. The engine bolts straight in, with little modifications....but you do still need an engineers certificate.

When l spoke to a "VASS" engineer, he told me that if the engine in stock form was over 10% power increase you needed a certificate. So this means that any "A series" engine except an A12 would need a certificate.

You also have to be careful of all the pollution gear. If like me you have a later model ute (81), you need to ensure that the engine's pollution requirements are the same as the model year of the car (including factory carb, air box etc etc)

Anyway, one of the best guys l've heard of is in bayswater, just around the corner from nispares. Haven't seen him myself, but will be in a few months, when mines done.

Give Dale a call from nispares, and ask him for the guys name and number. He has done heaps of datsun certificates, so he knows what he's talking about.

ANGE,
send me an email with exactly what you want.....l'll speak to a guy l know. He was telling me last week that he's bought about 6 half cuts recently from an importer who's really reliable.

Theres also a place in Bridge Rd, Keysborough. Cant remember the name yet, but you'd definately want to open the engines up, which he seems happy with.

I think that he only wanted $1100 for the lot, but that was a long time ago (12 months) and l didn't want it..
