Just thought l'd put this out and see if anyone else has heard of this...
Apparently at one of my old jobs l heard a guy saying that a datsun 1600 IRS rear end will bolt straight up to a 1200 (well ute anyway). You just use the rear crossmember and the whole sub assembly.
NO MODS NEEDED!! (Apparently)

I've had this same prob, and l've only got 195's on 15" (the car is pretty low though). I've got to it with a hammer and blocks but there is only so much it will move..
Best bet is to get an oxy and heat 'n' beat.. l'd just get your panelbeater friend to do it...
A last option which l almost did was buy guards from another type of car at wreckers, cut the flares out and weld them on..it'll leave a smooth finish with bigger flares...

just a thought, maybe try a new spring for the throttle return on the carbie...
if it's old it's possible that the heat can distort and make the spring weak so it wont have enough strength to force it back...
anyway, l'd fix it, beats riding a bike!!!!

Yeah l've been trying to avoid getting adjustable top plates, for half decent ones you pay up around $400.
However l thought also that some hubs/disks were offset differently, and l guess it also depends on the stub angle in relation to the strut.
I've only got the drum struts to compare with the 1600, but they are offset differently. It appears that the 1600 struts require much more strut angle to achieve the same camber even using the same arms.
Think l might just make my own top plates, to give the camber l want, and save money.

Yeah thanks guys. I'm also building a 1600 so l have all the spares lying around. I tried putting them on, using the 1200 arms, BJ's and TR's but they didn't quite mate up. I think if l used the 1600 arms it would go ok.
Chris, do you run large rims on yours. I see you have the same "rubbing" marks on your inner guard. I presume that the conversion changed castor so this doesn't happen anymore??
I'm running 15x6 and l still want them to fit in the guards ok. I've heard that stanza struts make this possible.

I was just wondering if anyone knows, or has heard of anyone putting 1600 struts on a 1200......
If not why?? There seems to be heaps of readily available brake upgrades and suspension components.

Just a suggestion, have you checked the thermostat?? It controls the temperature in your engine, so if you've changed everything else and it's still the same then it might be the cause....
You can buy hotter and colder thermostats also. Best to have colder ones in summer and hotter ones in winter..
Although the gauge up around the H is a real problem...I'm assuming you've checked for head gasket, and to see if it's losing lots of water??
If you have water entering into you're oil you'll know on you oil fill cap(milky appearance) and by the fact that water is just dissapearing and not onto the ground!!

If the ALT light is staying on then you have something to worry about...
You're alternator could be dying, and you're car will still run (just) while you have charge in your battery...but you don't want to let it go..
check the voltage output with a multimeter while the car is running, it should be above 12V, around the 14V mark.
If it's not, check to make sure you have enough tension in your timing belt. Also make sure all wires are attached, terminals are clean etc....
If all these check out and you don't have enough voltage, prob need new alternator. (or rebuild yours??)

sounds like the days of using spanners to get if off are over..
Get a pair of multi grips (they can be locked into place) and they will get if off..
Have you tried spraying with some sort of release spray ie WD40. It might help loosen the bolt.
I think l found that the more you swear the harder it becomes!! Have you tried throwing the spanner across the room, sometimes works for me!
