Just a small update on my headlights.

Basically, if your own headlights appear to have blown like mine did. Do what A14force described. He was right on the money, the headlight fuse appeared to be ok, but with further testing using a simple I/O circuit tester I was able to find out that it was infact blown. The fuse appeared OK on the outside, but thankfully it was the only thing I had to replace to get my headlights going again.

Also not forgetting what Bundy said to check out. That would've no doubt helped me out in the end. Thanks!

Once again, the Datsun1200 community has helped a fellow rev head get his ute back on the road. Thanks guys!

Thankyou Bundy,

Very comprehensive list to work through, exactly what I was after...

All that and it seems you can do it all with just a plain old circuit tester.

Thanks guys,

No, definatly no lights at all, high and low beam aren't working.

I'll grab a multimetre from work tomorrow and have a fiddle with the in-car fuses.

It's wasn't fun trying to get home from Yass without headlights I can tell you. I tried and failed and had to call someone out.

So here I am driving just before dusk the other night. Getting a bit dark, think I'll turn on my headlights. They worked for all of about 1 second and promptly die in the arse. Left me in the sticks and no lights.

I've looked closely at the fuses under the ignition, all of them fine.
Is there a fusable link and relay somewhere on the headlight circuit that I need to check in case it's blown as well?

Ohh definatly more powerful that's for sure. Really feels like it's less restricted in many ways.

Yeah you're right man, new cam and I should be good a while.

Next on the list an A15 to sit on a stand and slowly rebuild and learn alot more about these engines. Should be lots of fun.

Well thanks to Tommy I'm now on the Weber bandwagon. He passed on to me his DGEV 32/36 which I've fitted to my A12 with a GX head which I aquired off another member Tyrie.

I ran into very few problems along the way as well... YAY!

As you can see here in the next photo I needed to get out the angle grinder to take away some of the inlet manifold so it would fit in with my extractors. There WAS a water inlet there somewhere! I also had to grind the top corners of the extractos so that the inlet could fit in between. Set me back by about an hour.

Simple yet effective throttle cable linkage. Also the Electric choke on the Carby hooked up. This hooks up to the "N" wire on your stock Alternator. It's Yellow and is located towards the top.

Now I've set the baseline idle mixture and idle speed and tweaked them to my liking but I think it's still a bit rich. I seem to have a little flat spot when I blip the throttle at low speed. Just need to go and get it tuned this week and hopefully I'll be on the right track.

I've got a good friend that works at Dynotune in Braddon whom I may go and visit, but does anyone else have any other suggestions? Specifically A-series Weber experience!

I've also got a leaky thermostat gasket, but what I wanted to know is... Do you only use the gasket or should you apply some liquid gasket as well? I've heard mixed stories.

But the good news, much more torque down low and much, much smoother acceleration throughout the rev range.

Another vote for the z32 over here.

I've always liked them. Such an agressive stance on the road. And totally right Dundee, bang for buck these days it's very hard to beat.

Unless you live with one I don't think you could legitametly say that they are a bad car. We're all enititled to our personal choice of course.

Yes I own one...

Noted Shirley, thanks!

Can anyone tell me if going from a 70 profile to a 60 will throw my speedo out by much?

There's just so many more 60 profile choices out there even for a 13inch rim.

EDIT - Well I just found an answer to my question. Changing profile is a no-no according to Bob Jane Fyshwick.

Cheers Benny those Dunlops look good stuff, but wouldn't having a 60 profile tyre instead of a 70 which is what I've got currently throw my speedo out becuase it would be a smaller rolling radius.

I'm known to be totally wrong of course.

Thanks guys.

I'm currently browsing through the Yokohama online catalogs. Seems I can only get the A-Drive AA01 in the size that I need. Not really a performance tyre though.

Pirelli do the P400 Touring, again not really a genuine performance tyre.

Does anyone know if I'm able to go a little bit wider say to a 185, 195 so I can have more options available?
