haha, wish I could put it all back. I kinda destroyed the old frail hoses getting the suckers off.

I'll pop down to the parts place and get some 1/4inch hose tomorrow and put the alloy fuel rail back on and see how it all goes.

Apart from that is there anyway to prime the fuel system prior to starting the car?

EDIT - Well dont I feel like a newbie, just found out that the fuel pump is what the filter connects to... HAHA! Feel so stupid right now, always thought that most fuel pumps are located inside of the fuel tank itself...

The car is a b120 with a standard a12 engine.

You are right about the standard hose being 1/4inch. Would this be the reason? I've used good clamps on all of my conections.

Today I replaced the fuel filter and all of my fuel hoses. I used 5/16inch (8mm) hoses. During this process I removed that small alloy fuel rail that runs around the front of the rocker cover and used hose instead, running it around the back of the engine this time.

Problem is...

I started the car up and it idled for about 30-40 seconds untill I'm guessing what fuel was left in the carby had ran out and it promptly died is the arse.

Now I can't get fuel back into the carby and the car wont turn over.

I can get fuel to come up through the new filter by sucking on it (and yes I got a very putrid tasting suprise in the process!) but if I try and suck on the hose (stop laughing!) up towards the carby end I cannot get any fuel into the system. While sucking up towards the carby I can hear a small whirring noise in what I think is some sort of regulator.

Fuel filter > hose > regulator? > hose > carby

Any ideas on how to get fuel back into the system?

Cheers in advance
Steve

PS - I need the car running soonish because I've got a datto cruise to go to on Friday night! Which all Canberra local Datsun owners should attend by the way. Dickson Woolworths carpark 8th (this Friday) 8pm

Cheers Keith.

I did however get the head shaved when I took it to get the water galleries fixed, pretty sure the head is going to be true.

Tyrie PM mate!

Well, you guys were exactly right. I adjusted the valve clearances and poof! she fired up...

But...

After about 5 minutes of idleing I noticed there was still steam coming out of the exhaust and after a further 5 minutes at the back of the head water was starting the creep out...

Not happy!

I'll get the head back off and inspect it again and try it once more... but if it doesn't work I might just consider a swap an A15.

I'm about to go out and adjust those valve clearances. Hopefully it should work.

I'm very sure that I've got the leads in the right order (as I did number them as I took them off) and the dizzy cap is definatly on the right way. It only fits one way.

I also got my head fixed up as it would've been cheaper then swapping all of my gear on to the head that I got courtesy of a mate of Tyrie's (cheers mate!) It turned out that the head I got off your mate was exactly the same as mine!

I had mine cleaned, alloy welded and decked ready to go back on.

Cheers for the quick replies.

I didn't have the dizzy out during the head gasket replacement.

As for the valve clearances, pretty sure those wouldn't have been played with, but I'll check those out (just need to find those feeler gauges)

I did however have the rocker pedestal off to drop in the push rods, would this have screwed with the valve clearence?

So, after my head gasket blew due to corroded water galleries, I headed down the path of a gasket replacement etc etc.

Well, after I've built the engine back up, the bugger wont start.

There is fuel in the carbie (visible through the float glass) and it's sitting on the half-way mark as well. When I pump the accelerator there's also a descent amount of fuel going into the carbie. So it looks like I'm getting fuel in there.

I've also checked I'm getting sparks to the plugs by holding the high tension leads just off the plug and observing a nice bright spark jump the gaps. I also checked this between the dizzy and the ignition coil. So it looks like I've got sparks going too.

What else could I be missing?

All of my vacuum lines are back in their places.

The only thing that I didn't put back and haven't been able to as of yet is this...

The 2 wires that connect to some sort of sensor that goes into the block there, just by the termostat housing.

Also, I'm positive that I've put the leads back in the correct order, just thought I'd check with you guys. It's an A12 if that makes a difference.
I did label them.

*sigh* I just want to go for a spin in my ute again!

Cheers,

I got bored this evening, so I decided to pull off the head and inspect the damage done to the head gasket.

Well this is the cause!

It's about 1.5mm of corrosion.

My question is, is this acceptable? Where should I got from here?

Is it a throw away?

cheers
