hey guys,

I am trying to decide which tank i should use in my coupe when i do the fuel system. I am doing a CA18DET conversion so i was planning on using the standard tank and a surgie/lift pump setup, but after speaking with phat_dat1200 he reckons the standard tank is too small even with a a15, ill be filling up all the time! i noticed in his build thread on datnet.org he is using an r31 tank, i just want to know has anyone put one of these tanks into a coupe before and if so was it overly difiicult??

I would rather put the r31 tank in cause i dont wanna be filling up every 100ks on the way to datnats 07 (finger crossed)

Cheers
Hayden

Daveman: will the l series shaft suit both gearbox's? or only one of them if so which one?? Cheers

Short-coupe: with the stanza shaft which box did you use? also are you running an r31 borgy diff? if so are you saying that the stanza shaft had the correct yokes just needed to be shortened and went staright in? thanks for all your help guys

Hey guys,

I have finished fitting braking and handling components to my CA18DET 1200 and am starting to consider drive train combinations. I just wanted to get some opinions off fellow 1200 owners before making a decision.

Basically, i want to use the standard ca18det gearbox as i beleive it to be much stronger than the "stumpy" gearbox, and even though its harder to fit would be better in the long run, what do you think?? is the stumpy box any good under say 200kw 20psi conditions??

Secondly i am using a r31 siloutte LSD diff, shortened and i need a one peice tailshaft to suit. Now if i go with the ca18det gearbox then i need a tailshaft to suit. I understand that i will need to get the gearbox yoke swapped on regardless as the ca18det tailshaft only came in 2 peice, but does anyone know of a one peice tailshaft that has the r31 diff yoke on it already so i only have to get the gearbox yoke replaced??

Any help is much appreaciated,

Cheers,
Hayden

Hi there, just a few suggestions:

Are you using the standard ignition system and are you running in it Direct fire or wasted spark?? im prettty sur eit would be direct fire as the stinger is able to do that.

head into the ecu setup and double check all of you ignition and fuel offset parameters, make sure they align properly. I think the offset for iginition is something like 3,0,2,1 and the injector offset is 0,1,2,3,?

If that all looks ok DONT #### WITH THE CAS SETTINGS!!! if they worked before they will work again, unless your cas is rooted.

Next step is to set some ignition advance as by the looks of things its running pretty retarded. Set the ignitiion overall trim to +30 degrees and try to start it, if it fires up hook up your timing light and check the and check the timing. Cross refernce this with the timing dipsplayed by the ecu, and if they are not the same you will need to adjust the ecu trigger degrees BTDC setting, do this until both the engine and ecu are showing 30 advanced timing, and then back off the overall trim advance (the 30 degrees) until the engine is at 0 BTDC and the ecu displays the same thing, 0 degrees timing.

If you find trying to align it on 30 degrees advance try 20 or something less full-on.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

Hayden
