alright, popped the manifold off today, and the ports on the head are a perfect circle, whereas the ones on the intake are oval, and look to be taller. The gasket appears to be the oval one as well. It doesnt look as though it would leak, but obviously the car doesnt like it...how do I find a circle port manifold to fix this? I have checked to local wreckers, and the local parts guys, no good....anyone have one? The intake I have is stamped h72 if that matters.

alright, well the motor is coming out. I am finding WAY to many loose bolts, stacked washer and misc scary crud to justify leaving it in. I am gonna have to pull it and go throught the bolts, make sure everything is tight. It sounds like the supposudly "good" deal this guy got on the motor work wasnt a good deal afterwards. I have found unplugged vac lines, stacked washers, loose bolts, mismatched bolts.....its a wonder this thing runs a good as it does. He said he drove it from mexico up to Prescott, probably a good 12 hours like it was.....it runs good, but I just cant take the risk of a bearing cap comming loose....a leaking head gasket or something like that.......

o.k....so i was given a free 1978 Datsun, he called it a b210. Its a four door. (I am new to datsuns, but willing to learn) He lives in Mexico, and had the motor rebuilt there, which he called a 1.4l. It runs great at idle, but apparently has a vacum leak, which is stripping most of its power, and makes climbing hills, very slow....he told me that it was a mexican head, but has an american intake manifold, which does not line up correctly, therefore thats where the leak is comming from. I sprayed some starter fluid in the area, and sure enought, the rpms, pick up slightly, so it sounds feasible, or else something is wrong with the gasket. Does anyone know where I can pick up a mexican (and dont say mexico ) intake, or fix this? The local engine builder says he can machine an adaptor, but since I am a machinist I could do the same. does that sound like a way to go? I have not torn it down yet, and was gonna go buy an american gasket, open it up and compare to see what I am lookin at....has anyone run accross this before? thanks for your time guys!

p.s. also looking for a drivers front fender, shift know of any sort..and various odds and ends, this is gonna be me and the mrs commuter car, and it needs some tlc.
