hey 731200 these are all good tips, my girlfriend has to run a gallant booster and mc in her escy coz shes running a cozy 2ltr. I pulled the motor and all the wiring out of the car last weekend and its now sitting on the garage floor. I also picked up a ute diff to handle the power. It is defiantly a bigger motor ( about 65mm taller and a lot wider) but because it NA i dont have to worry about lots of piping. I am dead keen to do this swap without choping ANYTHING. I think it can be done if I put abit of thought and money into it, for example the ford box saves the tunnel but will cost to build the bellhousing and get a clutch and flywheel and the rest. But its worth not choping the 2door. I cant do anything on it for the next week but after that Ill get stuck in, cant realy do much though because painters and engineer shops wont want to hear from me till after xmas. Quinn

had a look at the s14 today. not to bad. Hurd the motor run, all sounds good, its only done 130,000km so it should still be good and strong. Its actually the vvt(?) motor (vtec) so it will be more powerful that just a standard sr. Any one know how much? Im a bit worried that it might need a special computer because of the vvt but its all there and im going to keep it standars except for the exhorst. The gearbox affect the computer? changing the box wont mess with any of the electrics will it? Defiantly decided to use the ford type 9 box. Im borrowing one this week to see how it fits in the datto tunnel, so fingers crossed. Quinn.

you guys will probably sigh and shake your heads but I assumed If i remove the complete loom out of the s14 all I need to do is find whats needed and whats not, get rid of whats not and supply power to what needs it, You know dont touch the ecu unit at all, assuming it all works and it should run because its all there, it just needs power.

call me conservative but its good to hear im not the only one lothe to chop up the 2door. Ive been looking at radiators and I think the alloy one out of a EXA 90s (front driver) with a sr20 is skinniny enough and short enough that I wont have to chop the front pannel. I will hear from the guy with the s14 in the week end and keep you posted. Cheers for all your imput Quinn

the sr is non turbo so there are no turbos and intercoolers etc to deal with. I dont mind cutting the radiator mounts and battery tray but I dont want to chop up the floor. I dont think the engine will be hard but its the box Im worried about.

I dont realy want to keep the auto and if the ecu is a cheep and easy swap Ill go manual. It will be in standard form so I dont need to worry about proformance chips. The reason for wanting a smaller different gearbox is to avoid choping the tunnel out of the 2door. To me it is worth spending the $$ and time to not have to chop up my car. If it was a coupe or 4 door it wouldnt bother me but I want it all to be reversable if possable. What about the ford box from behind the ztec? Would an L series fit and handle the power (rember its going to stay prety standard). I NEED to get a different box, choping is out of the question. Cheers. Quinn

check the thrust berring, my bros car was making a wurring metlic noise only at idle with the clutch out. we had it checked and the thrust berring was just starting to seize, it was also getting hard to change and select gears because the clutch wasnt fully in. if its comming out check the thrust berring. Good luck.

Ive decided to put a SR20 motor in my 2 door. I have found a mid 90s s14 silv. which has had a big snot in the back but otherwise complete and running for $400. So my plan is to take the engine, wiring loom/computer etc, front suspention and brakes, M/C and rear brakes and front seats and other bit of crap that will fit in the 1200. Problem number one. its an auto so i have to find a box. number two; i have no idea how to do the swap. Ive been told ill need to transplant the s14 tunnel into the 1200 to get the box in but I REALLY dont want to chop up the 1200. Is there a smaller box that will handle a standard sr20 and will fit in (happy to use a bit of force!!) a 1200 tunnel. Ive also been told that ill need to use the s14 mounts and cut the top face of the crossmember (and reposition it lower) to fit the sr in. Ive had a breef look and I know im being lazy but if any of you sr boys could give me tips and an indication as to what needs to be done it would been realy cool. Cheers Quinn.
