I sold it. Im not sure if you are thinking of me. Ive only been working at repco for about 3 months and I dont think i ever got an oval port head of anyone from taupo. You might be thinking I a guy call Riky who I know that works at repco and has a coupe with an oval port head.
cheers for the info

The biggest part of a project (ezcept for the love of the car) is the bargin finding. there is no better way to spend thursday (when the local trade and exchange mag comes out) and the weekend hunting for bargins and nailing people on good deals. I have the datsun as one project and I buy and sell cars and parts to help fund it, partly because im still in uni and its easier than working 9-5 but also because its adicitive. In the last 2 years I have owned 12 cars from austins to corrollas to escorts and I have yet to make less than $600 prof on each, some Ive made up to $2000. I have a sweet set of minilights I paid $100 for, a gx bonnet I got for $100 etc. Still I will loose $$ on the datto, I know and I dont care coz I love it.

What I was saying is overdrives are fine (Ive got one) but you couldn't go much more with an a series. I think people worry about the number of gears way to much, its not how many you have but rather the ratio that affects the car. the reason trucks have so many gears is so they can keep in their torque range all the time and i believe youll find their top gear is much higher that 0.8:1 because they have the torque to pull it, sorry but you are completely wrong. As far as cars in some cases to many is to many, my girlfriends father had a wrx and his wife a honda s2000 and he told me the honda would have been as quick as the wrx if it only had 5 gears because you loose time continuously changing, i drove both and agree with him. As far as crusing goes its all good to have 6 gears if top is an over drive but if the 5 speed has an overdrive its all the same in the end. I still believe it is better to get the ratios right rather than go surching for an extra gear.

I dont think an a series motor would have the torque to move a 6 speed. If you want a 1:1 gear and an over-drive wouldn't it be cheeper to get a 5speed sunny box with an overdrive 0.8:1 5th and machine the rest of the gears to what ever ratio you needed. Like the bullit-box my girlfriend has in her escort - 4 speed with the same 4th gear ratio but a long 1st and shorter 2nd and 3rd. made 2 seconds difference to her times around puki. worth every penny.

rose-jointing would be the ultimate but also verry expencive and it would give a hard ride. I didnt know pedders had all the ball joints for the 1200, Ill give them a call, as for the bushes Ive already got the complete set in nolithane.

Youve got a good memory teretonga, I do have a 124 and its still in the garrage waiting for me to finish it off, theres only the roll cage foam and a few other small items and its done. Yea the steerings for the 2door, I will check out the sunny steering box, sounds good. Im hoping some one will tell me if 120y stuff will bolt strate in, it would make life a lot simpler.

Im looking at replacing all the steering components in my 1200 as they are pretty much shagged. I have ( i think) all the bushes i need but finding things like idler arms and inner ball joints are hard, even though I work for repco. Im kind of being lazy but i was wondering what parts from other cars will mesh with the 1200, ie 120y? ( we only list 120y steering parts) or corolla arms will make the steering quicker i heard. If you were to build the steering from scratch and didnt want to face engineering issues ( nothing to extreme) what would you do?
Any ideas will be really helpful.
Cheers

hey what else did the gx come with? was it a coupe or a sedan? The reason i ask is the guy i got the bonnet off had a coupe race car (VERY rough) but he lifted the cover and im sure I saw 4 round holes where the normal rear lights go. Did the gx come as a coupe with different rear lights like the 120y gx? if so I can give the details of the guy or ring him if anyone is interested.

I got myself a 1200 GX bonnet today. I think Ive seen a pic of one that a nz guy owns (can rember who) but Id never seen one till now. It has a bit of rust but is fixable, $100 is a fare price concidering the rearity of it.
